Diffuser Beads, designed to cool the smoke in your bong or water pipe, come in six colors
I recently had a chance to try 2K Diffuser Beads, small plastic beads that are placed in the water chamber of a water pipe or bong. The beads cool down the smoke by adding more surface area, acting as a percolation chamber to break up the smoke before it reaches your mouth and lungs, making it less harsh.
They were created for those who enjoy the fun of smoking out of a water pipe, but find the hit a bit harsh.
The beads, made of high-grade recycled plastic described by the company as “100 percent safe and non-toxic,” intermix with the smoke and water. This forces the smoke to separate and travel around each individual bead, softening the hit. Between 500 and 600 diffuser beads come in every jar.
Diffuser beads come in six different colors, including Glow in the Dark to add a little extra fun to those nighttime bong hits.

The beads were first created in January 2011 by Ken Kemph and Maayan Gordon. After working for a year at the Piece of Mind head shop in Seattle, Ben saw a market demand for diffuser beads and decided to create a company making smoking accessories and devices to fill and fit the needs of smokers. Utilizing Maayan’s chemistry background and in-depth knowledge in scientific research, 2K Diffuser Beads was born.
Each jar of diffuser beads comes with a handy “Kashing Kap” for you to use as a bowl poker. When you get ash stuck in your bowl or pipe, just use the Kashing Kap to clear it out.
The beads also help keep your water pipe clean by attracting the tar and resin more than your glass does.
Diffuser beads are 100 percent reusable. When they get dirty, put them back in the container them came in, add a little alcohol or bong cleaner, shake, rinse, and they’re good as new.
The beads are specifically designed to be light enough to intermix with the smoke and water, but heavy enough not to leave the water when inhaling.
Diffuser beads allow you to take fatter bong rips, because the added diffusion causes the smoke to build up slower in the chamber, taking longer to reach your mouth.

Online retailer Spoony’s Glass Pipes is selling jars of Diffuser Beads for the “sale price” of $9.97, marked down from the “regular price” of $19.97. At the reduced price, I’d say they’re worth a try, based on my experience. (Glow in the Dark beads, regularly $27.97, are $13.97 at the discounted price.)
