Hempstalk 2011

A compelling mix of upbeat music, a cannabis law reform message and a focus on industrial hemp as the answer to many of our practical needs, the seventh annual Portland Hempstalk festival is set for 10 a.m to 9 p.m. Saturday, September 10, and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Kelley Point Park, located at the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia Rivers.

Co-sponsored by The Hemp and Cannabis Foundation (THCF), Green Leaf Lab and John Lucy, attorney at law, the event is free to attendees of all ages. With more than 40,000 people expected to attend, it will wrap up the summer festival season with a bang, according to organizers.
This year’s Hempstalk will also feature more than 100 vendor booths offering delicious food and irresistible merchandise, and a Hemposium which will feature informational panels on a variety of cannabis and hemp-related topics.

Speakers will include THCF director Paul Stanford, NORML outreach coordinator and radio host “Radical” Russ Belville and many others.
Headlining musical acts include The Sindicate, winners of the Hempstalk 2011 Talent Search, along with iconic Las Vegas rappers Los Marijuanos and a plethora of bands committed to end the war on cannabis.
Another major highlight of Hempstalk will be gathering signatures for the Oregon Cannabis Act 2012, which would normalize cannabis by allowing sales in dedicated stores to adults over 21, thereby generating millions of dollars in revenue for Oregon’s General Fund. The Oregon Cannabis Tax Act (OCTA) would also legalize cultivation of industrial hemp to meet the needs of a fast-expanding worldwide market with too little supply.
With our nation’s struggling economy, soaring gas prices, and recent global shortages of food and energy, Americans can’t afford to ignore the fact that industrial hemp can play a vital role in securing our nation’s future. Hemp may yet prove to be the world’s most useful plant, and it can provide Oregon’s farmers with an easy-to-grow cash crop in great demand for clothing, food products, and alternative fuels.
This year, Hempstalk its featuring its first beer garden with brews from Rogue Brewery. There will be a hemp ale available to try.
Hempstalk attendees are encouraged to carpool. Parking is available for $5 along Marine Drive. Kelley Point Park is also easy to reach by bicycle, which is the best way to attend the event.
