An Illinois man who fell from the hood of a moving vehicle while trying to get back some stolen marijuana, according to police, is now hospitalized in critical condition.

The 26-year-old Woodstock, Illinois, man had jumped onto the roof of a car late Sunday while trying to stop another man who had fled with the cannabis without paying for it, according to police, reports Andrea L. Brown at the Chicago Tribune.
The alleged attempted pot thief, John C. Kurchina, 22, also of Woodstock, was charged with theft, according to police. The woman who was driving the getaway car, according to police — Hanna M. Schacht, 21, also of Woodstock — was also charged with failure to report an accident with injuries.

The injured alleged pot dealer at first tried to open the car door and then jumped on the roof of the vehicle, police said. He was thrown off the car when Schacht drove off.
The cops got a tip around 10:10 p.m. about a possible hit-and-run incident involving a pedestrian. When they arrived, police said they found the victim lying in the road unconscious.
Suffering life-threatening head injuries, the man was taken to Centegra Hospital in McHenry and then transferred by helicopter to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, according to police.
Alleged attempted pot thief Kurchina, out on $20,000 bond, couldn’t be reached for comment. Schacht remained in McHenry County Adult Correctional Facility in lieu of $25,000 bond, according to police.
