Diane Riportella, from YouTube.

From the time she was diagnosed with ALS in 2007 until the day she died in September 2012, Diane Riportella fought hard for New Jersey patients to have access to legal medical cannabis.
For her efforts, Compassionate Care Foundation will be dedicating their (soon-to-be open) new dispensary building to Riportella. Compassionate Care will be New Jersey’s second legal dispensary when open.

A teenager was arrested earlier this week after police say he gave marijuana to two girls who then “overdosed” on the herb.
No, we aren’t making this horseshit up. Pot paranoia is alive and well in New Jersey. The cops in Franklin Borough actually released that bit information to the press. But here’s the kicker: they admit that they didn’t test for anything and admit “other narcotics” could be involved.

Update – 9/12/13: New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie Tuesday signed a bill into law that makes it a little easier for parents to access medical cannabis for their sick children in that state. This is the second time this bill has made it’s way to the governor’s office, with Christie rejecting the first version in August because he said increased too much access.
“I’m pleased the legislature accepted my recommendations so that suffering children can get the treatment they need,” Christie said in a statement. “I’ve said all along that protection of our children remains my utmost concern, and this new law will help sick kids access the program while also keeping in place appropriate safeguards. Parents, not government regulators, are best suited to decide how to care for their children, and this law advances that important principle.”

Fat Bastard New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

The New Jersey Senate has caved in to Gov. Chris Christie’s demands, altering a medical marijuana bill that would have eased access for suffering children to make it more restrictive.
The 34 to 1 vote means that children will have to have two doctors signing off on a child’s recommendation for medical cannabis, one of which has to be a child psychiatrist. The new bill also expands the available forms of medicated edibles, but limits those new forms to children only – a baffling move to anyone who has researched medical cannabis for even five minutes online could tell you.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie isn’t sympathetic to severely sick children.

Yesterday was the original deadline for a New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie to sign a bill increasing access for medical marijuana for sick and needy children in his state, and here we are today with no signature.
Thankfully, Christie has been given an extension of sorts until August 19. We say thankfully, but every day that this asshole holds off on signing the bill is one day longer that children have to suffer and pushing the signing back by even an hour is despicable at this point.

If your phone has a keylock feature, use it. Not only will it prevent people from stealing your information if you happen to have your phone behind (or absentmindedly leave it somewhere), but it will keep you from pocket-dialing the cops while you talk about ganja with your friends.
Of course, merely talking about marijuana isn’t illegal – but as Florham park, New Jersey police proved last week: that won’t stop them from busting you.

Would-be New Hampshire medical marijuana patients have to wait and suffer while their legislators take their sweet time getting the state’s newly-created and recently-approved medical marijuana bills signed into law.
The bill, which creates a state-regulated marijuana dispensary program and allows registered patients to purchase and posses up to two ounces of cannabis, was approved June 26, but has been sitting on the desk of House Speaker Terie Norelli since then – unsigned. Once it makes it to the governor, the new laws go into place.

Update 6/25/2013: The New Jersey General Assembly approved changes to the state medical marijuana laws that will help severely sick children access beneficial medical cannabis.
The bill now heads to New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who has been reluctant in the past to implement state medical marijuana laws and has been a vocal critic of making medical cannabis available to children.
