High Times will once again be a Mile High on the 4/20 holiday, when the magazine will bring its now-annual Cannabis Cup back to Denver. But do recent shutdowns of other cannabis-friendly events in the city mean that attendees won’t enjoy the same huge clambake that has marked the last three Cups?
According to promoters, the event will once again be filled with speakers, grow workshops, live music and plenty of national and international vendors — much like last year’s.

Hidden smoke shack in Colorado.

It is safe to say that two of the most popular past times in Colorado are pot and skiing. But Colorado ski industry leaders say they would rather not see the two industries combine, at least not in terms of marketing.
In fact, they worry that the pro-pot push in Colorado means that families will be teaching their kids to pizza and French-fry in other states where pot remains illegal, taking their much-loved $3 billion in annual tourist dollars with them.

Hidden smoke shack in Colorado.

Many Colorado ski towns are allowing recreational pot sales. But that doesn’t mean public weed smoking is any more legal at resorts than it is elsewhere in Colorado.
Still, the idea that ski areas will crack down on those who light up in plain view definitely stirs emotions, as Arapahoe Basin chief operating officer Alan Henceroth (seen here) discovered when he wrote about it not once but twice this past weekend. Denver Westword has the full story.

Legalize me.

Think Mary Jane should be legal? You’re not alone. In just one year, the percentage of Americans who favor legalizing marijuana jumped ten percentage points from a small, 48 percent minority to a large, 58 percent majority.
Only 39 percent of people polled said marijuana should remain illegal. They also probably still think the war on drugs is money well spent.

Cloud vape pen.

Pen-vapes. Man, we all thought we were pretty stealth at first with them. Taking puffs at baseball games, in restaurants, in airports, on trains, planes and buses. But guess what? It’s no secret that that us ganja tokers figured out how to put cannabis in e-cigarettes anymore. The cat is out of the bag (of sticky-icky).
Case and point: cops in Nassau, New York are testing e-cigarettes for pot when they find one of the devices on suspected drug criminals.

When most people think of Jamaica, the first two things that come to mind are usually relaxing reggae music and killer cannabis. Yet, even though weed is widely accepted in public on the irie isle and brings in big tourism dollars, smoking marijuana is still technically illegal in Jamaica.
In an attempt to capitalize on a rise in support for marijuana decriminalization, organizations like the Ganja Law Reform Coalition and the Rastafari Millennium Council are making a push to convince the Jamaican government to end 100 years of prohibition on the marijuana plant.

Kim Sidwell/Cannabis Camera.

We’ve always thrown a pretty good party on 4/20 here in Colorado, but this year has the makings to be the largest, best yet (our pro-Colorado bias aside). We’ll have a report here Saturday evening and our roving team (ie. me) will be tweeting all day about the rally, the High Times Cannabis Cup, Slightly Stoopid at the famous Red Rocks amphitheater and whatever else we find ourselves getting into (probably lots of cannabis. really, really good cannabis).
For those stuck at home wanting to know what it’s going to be like tomorrow afternoon here in the Mile High, we’ve got a slideshow of last year’s events from Toke of the Town friend, photographer and documentary artist Kim Sidwell with Cannabis Camera. Enjoy!

Normally, drug dogs and I don’t get along. That whole I-smell-like-skunk-ass-daily thing really puts a damper on any chance of a mutually-respectful friendship.
But Loveland, Colorado police might have just changed that by training drug dogs that specifically do not sniff for weed thanks to voter approved Amendment 64 which legalized small amounts of marijuana for personal use and possession.

Last October, Aldwin Rendardo Gooden stepped off a flight from Kingston, Jamaica in Gatwick Airport in the UK where he lives and was immediately detained for the two boxes containing about 44 pounds of marijuana he was packing in his luggage. Sadly, that’s not all that uncommon around the world (even I’ve been stopped coming back for Jamaica for simply smelling like ganja).
