With the tide of public opinion rapidly turning against the dangers of reefer madness, you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who considers marijuana to be the deadly gateway drug portrayed in D.A.R.E. class and alarmist after-school specials. And yet there are many people who, while they still support the legalization of recreational cannabis, have struggled with an addiction to weed.
Last week, Toke caught up with one such person, a 30-year-old creative type we’ll call Jonathan, who began attending Marijuana Anonymous meetings in Los Angeles six months ago and hasn’t gotten high since. Head over to West Coast Sound for more.

A Florida woman was abruptly visited by Florida Child Protective Services last week on an anonymous tip that she had been administering marijuana to her son, who suffers from a rare form of epilepsy.
Turns out, Renee Petro was not administering any marijuana to her 12-year-old son, Branden. Petro has, however, been an outspoken advocate for medical marijuana. The real crime, it would seem, was the intrusion of CPS agents arriving at her home to interrogate her 9-year-old daughter and the nurse who takes care of Branden.

Team Vendetta

Online marijuana legalization group Team Vendetta, working in concert with the shadowy hacktivist collective Anonymous, has announced the “aPOTcalypse,” which is what it is calling a new phase of direct action against cannabis prohibition.

“When Team Vendetta joined the legalization movement, one of the things that we wanted to accomplish was to bring something new to the movement,” our source in Team Vendetta told Toke of the Town on Monday afternoon. “Also, we have noticed the polarization of the 420 community due to infighting, so the team wanted to develop something that would help bring the cannabis community back together again to fight the war on cannabis oppression as one.
“We would like to give the 420 community an online voice and the power to protest on a different level,” our source told us. “Anonymous is actually one of the newest and truest democracies, due to its collective decisions. Its own checks and balances ensure that Anonymous is just not another bully, but rather a collective conscience as a whole.”

It’s not Weeds, It’s real.
“Hi, I’m Caitlin and I’m a Stoner”
Story and Photos By Sharon Letts
Caitlin walked quickly through the living room, into the dining room, and back out through the kitchen, then back again.
“I should leave in 15 minutes,” she thought, and made one more loop around the house.
“No fucking willpower,” she said aloud, and without another thought, she went straight into the bedroom, took a small tray from the bookshelf, and sat on the bed.
On the tray sat a wooden box, and inside held a rolling machine, papers, lighter, ashtray, and a little jar of kief-rich trim.
The plastic rolling machine hurt the inside of her thumb as she rolled the device. Friends teased for her lack of hand-rolling-know-how. “You aren’t a stoner, Caitlin, you are a casual user,” they chided.

You can buy pot at nearly 750 dispensaries around Colorado, but that doesn’t mean you have to. Colorado is one of the few states that allows residents to grow their own cannabis, and plenty of them are all too happy to do so. Still, why put all the work in, when you can go to a store and buy something grown professionally?

To find out, we asked a veteran home grower in Aurora, who was happy to answer our questions but asked to remain anonymous.
