I don’t smoke pot with my dad, but I wish I did. It would be fun to get perspectives on cannabis strains from a man who enjoys his coffee black and his beer cold, with very few exceptions. Not one to spice things up that are fine the way they are, my old man would be a fan of Lamb’s Bread if he ever picked up the pipe — just as I imagine every no-bullshit person would.

While most people think smoking weed is purely for couch reasons, more marijuana consumers are starting to use the plant for productivity. Certain strains can help medical issues such as insomnia and eating disorders, but energy is one of the most sought-after effects in recreational pot right now.

Most daytime strains give users a buzzing, motivational high, inspiring us to finish chores around the house, get outdoors or tackle a creative project. Unfortunately, common side effects of energetic strains are anxiety and paranoia, neither of which are helpful in public or while making decisions. So to help you get up, get out and get something today, here are eleven strains that are both uplifting and gentle on the psyche.

Just remember: Smoking marijuana affects everyone differently, so try these strains out slowly.

After a week of nothing but clean, active highs from Lamb’s Bread and a few days off the flower during a family trip, going back to a strain with a lineage stretching further than a sequoia would’ve been too much for my simple mind to process. It’s hard to find something easygoing yet delicious in an industry focused on potency, but with nearly 175 retail dispensaries open now in Denver, I was bound to come upon at least one rose among the weeds.

Update: The Colorado Senate just approved SB 17-17; Kent Lambert was the only no vote. It now moves on to the House. Here’s our original story:

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder may be the next addition to Colorado’s list of qualifying conditions for medical marijuana.  On January 30, the state Senate committee on Veterans and Military Affairs heard arguments for SB 17-17, the Post-Traumatic Stress Bill, before a standing-room-only crowd.

State Senator Ray Scott, chair of the committee, called upon victims, veterans, physicians and advocates to testify on behalf of cannabis use for stress disorders, including PTSD.

Love, romance and smoke were in the air for the Simply Cooking class with Scott Durrah.

Longtime chef Scott Durrah has a strong restaurant personality — and a strong tolerance for cannabis. He showed off both at last Saturday’s Simply Cooking demonstration that combined his love of food with his love of cannabis — and his love for partner Wanda James, with whom he runs Jezebel’s Southern Bistro as well as theirdispensary, Simply Pure. The theme of the day’s cooking demonstration was love and romance — and the pop-up kitchen definitely got hot.

Durrah prepared two dishes that morning: pan-seared scallops salad with grapefruit and cannabis-infused olive oil, and a lamb chop preparation that incorporated his homemade cannabis-infused coconut oil, mint tincture as a mint sauce, bok choy and brown rice. Pro tip: Store your cannabis-infused coconut oil in a hollowed-out coconut. Not only does it improve the flavor, Durrah says, but “It just looks so cool.”

According to a Santa Ana Police Department investigator, 17 medical marijuana dispensaries were visited by police in the past week. 42 tickets were issued to dispensaries operating in violation of the city’s 2007 ban on pot clubs, three of which–Wax City, Emerald, and Wax-R-Us–have now closed. The operation came in the wake of a July 15 city council meeting in which councilmembers voted to appropriate $500,000 for ongoing anti-pot enforcement actions.

How to get rich quick from the marijuana boom without having anything to do with marijuana? Sell someone a pot-oriented domain name for big bucks! May sound like a long shot, but we found plenty of people on Denver Craigslist trying this tack, peddling sometimes clever/sometimes bizarre/sometimes stupid domain names for $100,000 or more — although bidding at one focusing on hemp starts at just 99 cents and others are more reasonably priced. Check out our ten favorites below, complete with links to the items plus original text and (usually but not always) the art from the ads.
