A 50-acre pot farm with nearly 3,450 plants and a street value of $1.75 million was raided by municipal, county and state authorities in Brenham, Texas Monday.
No suspects were located in the seizure, which is the sixth “marijuana growing operation shut down in Washington County since January 2013,” according to the Montgomery County Police Reporter. More over at the Houston Press.
Last weekend, Nevada state Sen. Tick Segerblom and five other lawmakers took a trip to Arizona for some medical marijuana. Medical marijuana education t be exact.
According to Segerblom, a Democrat from Las Vegas, if Arizona – arguably one of the most conservative states in the country – can not only pass medical marijuana laws but implement a state-regulated dispensary program, then so can Nevada. The trip is his way of convincing legislators to support Segerblom’s Senate Bill 374 which would allow for medical marijuana dispensaries in Nevada.

Update, July 11 at 2:49 p.m.: We spoke with representatives from the Bakersfield PD who tell us they did not make a mistake. Seriously. The Sergeant we spoke with said that they valued the haul based on a price per-gram. Yes, they value all 3,067,192 grams at roughly $24 a pop. He said they don’t go by the bulk price, only the street price, and according to their research, they think $24 a gram is reasonable.
But the reality is that by doing that, they’ve completely blown any credibility they had left. Nobody is selling 3 million grams of pot by the gram. Nobody. Try as you may to sell even an ounce at that rate, and you’d go crazy. That’s why people (the majority) buy in bulk. Also, nobody in California is paying $25 a gram on the street. Nobody. These cops are just plain clueless about the things they are supposed to know about. A more reasonable figure would be $7.6 million, or just over $1,000 a pound. Even if it was top shelf, it wouldn’t get more than $3,500 a pound — meaning it would be worth $23.67 million at most.
Don’t expect any MMJ dispensaries here anytime soon. |
The NIMBYs of the Fairfield, Conn. Town Plan and Zoning Commission all seem to agree that medical marijuana is a legitimate and beneficial therapy for patients with certain debilitating conditions.
They just don’t want it anywhere near their town.
Unidentified suspected dispensary robber. |
Two men were shot and killed in an apparent medical marijuana dispensary robbery in Bakersfield, California yesterday while the two alleged robbers remain at large.
Police say that 23-year-old Devin Scott Daniels and 55-year-old Tony Conrad Sherman. Though police didn’t identify whether the two who were killed worked at the center, other news sources have identified them as security guards who worked for the dispensary.
Couldn’t resist. |
Springfield, Missouri City Councilman Doug Burlison believes that marijuana can be a helpful medicine and that it’s time to stop treating it like such a harmful, dangerous drug. Compared to other local elected officials, however, he is very much in the minority — so much so that his colleagues continue to reject efforts to pass a minor reform that would reduce the punishments for low-level possession cases.
The council once again voted down the initiative this week. Riverfront Times has the rest.
