Update, 5/1/14: We love when we are wrong about things like this. The Iowa legislature officially passed their CBD-only bill this morning, with the bill clearing both the House and Senate by 4:30 a.m. today.
The bill, which would allow sick Iowans with a doctor’s reccomendation to purchase CBD oil out of state then bring it back to Iowa, passed the house with a 75-20 vote and was approved by the senate with a 38-8 vote. The bill now heads to Gov. Terry Branstad for his signature.

An Iowa state senator has introduced a medical marijuana bill to the state legislature, but says advancing the bill any further would be a long shot.
Sen. Joe Bolkcom of Iowa City says he doesn’t have the bipartisan support in both the state House and Senate whatsoever for Senate File 79, which would allow for qualifying patients to cultivate and possess up to 2.5 ounces of herb at a time as well as create state-regulated medical cannabis dispensaries.

Star running back Adam Robinson of the Iowa Hawkeyes — shown here in an unguarded moment from July — was arrested and charged with marijuana possession Monday night

Iowa running back Adam Robinson has been charged with possession of marijuana, endangering his career with the Hawkeyes.

Robinson was arrested at 10:45 p.m. on Monday night, said the Iowa State Patrol, reports KCCI in Des Moines. He was a passenger in a car that was stopped by troopers, according to spokeswoman Courtney Greene, who said Robinson was cited and released.
A trooper stopped the vehicle in Des Moines because it didn’t have a front license plate, according to officials. As he approached the vehicle, the trooper reported noticing “a strong odor of marijuana” coming from the vehicle, which constituted probable cause to search, officials said.
The driver, Ermin Zornic, 20, was charged with possession with intent to deliver marijuana and OWI, pending toxicology tests. He was driven to Polk County Jail.
Robinson, a running back and the team’s leading rusher for the past two seasons, had already been suspended from the Hawkeyes due to failure to follow team policies. He did not travel with the team to Arizona to play in the Insight Bowl. He is originally from Des Moines.
Earlier this month, head coach Kirk Ferentz commented on Robinson’s suspension, saying, “While Adam has been cleared medically, he will not be participating in the upcoming Insight Bowl game as a result of failing to comply with team expectations and policies. Adam will have the option to rejoin the team when classes resume in January.”

The Iowa Board of Pharmacy Tuesday morning reclassified marijuana as a Schedule Two drug with medical uses.

The Iowa Board of Pharmacy on Tuesday morning reclassified marijuana as a drug with medicinal purposes. The Board agreed to change cannabis from a Schedule One to a Schedule Two drug.

The new classification by the Board means that marijuana is now considered to have accepted medical use in treatment, reports Angie Hunt at KCCI in Des Moines.
Previously, as a Schedule One drug, marijuana was regarded as having no proven or acceptable medical uses.

Students at more than 80 colleges across the United States are urging their universities to allow them to use marijuana, rather than the legal party substance, alcohol, as part of National Alcohol Awareness Month.

The students argue that stiff penalties for being caught in a campus dorm with cannabis encourages students to use alcohol and promotes binge drinking.
