State Senator Joseph Brannigan has introduced LD 1811, “An Act to Amend the Maine Medical Marijuana Act,” which would finally set the stage for the establishment of medical marijuana dispensaries in Maine.
The Maine Legislature’s Health and Human Services Committee will hold a public hearing on the bill on Thursday, March 11 at 1 p.m., in room 209 in the Cross Building. Any resident of Maine is allowed to testify.
While the bill is great as it is, according to the group Maine Marijuana Policy Initiative (MMPI), it will be even better if it can be amended to allow caregivers to sell any excess marijuana to dispensaries.
As the bill is currently written, caregivers would have to turn any excess marijuana over to law enforcement to be destroyed, unconscionably wasting good medicine.
If you are a resident of Maine and support medical marijuana, here’s what you can do:
• Come to Augusta on Thursday, March 11, at 1 p.m. in Room 209 of the Cross Building to testify in support of MMPI’s proposed amendment.
• Call the members of the Health and Human Services Committee and urge them to amend the bill to allow caregivers to give or sell any excess marijuana to dispensaries, and then vote “ought to pass.”
