“Federal Government Should Respect State Reforms, Not Waste Money on Failed Policies”

In a response to a teleconference this afternoon featuring former drug czars and Drug Enforcement Administration officials calling on the federal government to vigorously oppose attempts to reform marijuana laws, the Marijuana Policy Project said that marijuana prohibition is a failed policy and urged the Department of Justice to allow states to experiment with alternatives to arresting adult marijuana users.
In November, voters in Colorado, Washington, and Oregon will decide on ballot initiatives that would remove criminal penalties for adult marijuana use. Two of these initiatives, in Colorado and Washington, would replace current marijuana laws with tightly regulated systems similar to those used to control alcohol. (Unfortunately, Washington’s “legalization” measure, I-502, would also institute a DUI-cannabis level unsupported by science.)

Idaho H.O.P.E. Fest

The second annual Idaho H.O.P.E. Fest, Boise’s only hemp rally, is coming up on Sunday, September 30 at Ann Morrison Park. The gathering — to educate the public on the many uses of hemp — is designed to promote awareness on the reform of marijuana laws in a positive and polite atmosphere, according to organizers.
H.O.P.E. stands for Hemp Offers People Everything, and this year’s event has a number of goals:
• To collect signatures on Compassionate Idaho’s Citizens Initiative seeking to legalize medical marijuana for Idaho’s seriously ill patients
• To promote the re-legalization of industrial hemp
• To educate the public on the growing cannabis industry, a legitimate market providing jobs and economic growth to states that have legalized its medical use
• To push for public discussions on the reform of Idaho’s archaic and unjust cannabis laws.

What is behind the war on cannabis — both medicinal and recreational? Will marijuana ever be legalized?

The Young Turks’ show “The Point” takes a look at these questions this week, with political comedian John Fugelsang leading the panel. He discusses cannabis with comedian Cornell Reid, The 420 Times editor Dave Brian, and Perennial Holistic Wellness Center owner Sam Humeid.
It was my honor to kick off the panel discussion with the first “point” of the show, 90 seconds on the rich, 12,000-year history shared by cannabis and the human race.

Mexico’s Movement for Peace with Justice and Dignity set off from San Diego on August 12 to traverse the country with a message: To end the war on drugs in the U.S. and Mexico.

Press Conference Will Call for Halt in Arms Trafficking to Mexico and Drug Policy Changes to Reduce Violence in Mexico
The Caravan for Peace with Justice and Dignity arrived in Washington, D.C., on September 10 on the last stop of its 25-city journey across the United States to call for an end to the failed Drug War that has devastated individuals, families, and entire communities on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border.

The Drug War has led to more than 60,000 murders in Mexico in the last five years and incarcerated millions in the United States at a cost of over $1 trillion in the past 40 years. The Caravan’s ultimate goal is to help bring an end to that war by urging alternatives to drug policies and sensible regulations of the U.S. gun market, among other critical changes.

The Denver City Council on Monday approved a ban on all outdoor medical marijuana advertising in the Mile High City.

The ban covers billboards, posters, bus benches, windshield leaflets and sign-twirlers, reports John Ingold of The Denver Post.
The unanimous vote took less than a minute. The council then voted — again unanimously — to kill an alternative plan which was more limited, and would have only banned outdoor medical marijuana ads within 1,000 feet of schools, daycare centers and parks.

Russ Belville probably knows people who like kiddy porn, and it is unclear what his involvement in this kiddy-porn scandal really is.
Okay….That is probably not true. Or maybe it is. Who knows?
But I can reference it and speculate here and on my personal blog because the internet is a wonderful place. In turn, unsuspecting and gullible people on the internet could read my piece, and many may start to spread this dirty rumor around.
The next thing you know, Russ is knee-deep in some kiddy-porn scandal that he has nothing to do with, and which is weakly evidenced as ever even existing.
But the damage is done, right?

With Hempfest just over a week away, I’m looking forward to once again having an opportunity to see old friends and make new ones at the protestival, and to maybe reach a few folks from the stage as well (I’m once again scheduled to speak all three days; the exact speaker schedules aren’t yet released).

This video is from last year’s event, on the Main Stage, from which I was speaking about the lies of prohibitionists and the value of cannabis as a neuroprotectant.

This collective, in Olympia, Washington, is a real innovator among medical marijuana access points

Washington’s Sonshine Organics Also Features A Marijuana Farmer’s Market Twice A Month

A medical marijuana access point in Olympia, Washington, has taken convenience to the next level, opening a drive-through window for patients.

Having visited about 70 collectives now in my capacity as “Toke Signals” marijuana/dispensaries reviewer for the Seattle Weekly, the drive-through window at Sonshine Organics is a feature I’ve never seen before. To my knowledge, this is the first one in the Pacific Northwest.
According to Sonshine’s Sarena Haskins, the drive-through window is open on Fridays and Saturdays for the convenience of patients. “For example, busy mothers who don’t want to leave their kids in the car,” she told me.
