Levi Welton.

Was marijuana a contributing factor in the death of two-year-old Coloradan Levi Welton earlier this year?
Expect this to be among the arguments made against his parents, Julia and Chris Welton. More than two months after Levi died following a fire in the family’s Sterling, Colorado home, his mother and father have been accused of negligent child abuse resulting in death, among other charges — and pot smoking appears to be central to the case against them.

Be careful what you wish for. That is the lesson being realized today by pro-cannabis advocates and activists in America’s Finest City.

San Diego, California

Yesterday, on a nearly unanimous 8-1 decision, the San Diego City Council finally cast a meaningful vote on establishing an official medical marijuana business ordinance in the city, laying down a law on pot shops for the first time since the California Compassionate Use Act, commonly referred to as Prop 215, was passed nearly 18 years ago.

This November, throngs of Floridians will strap on their sandals and flop their way to the polls to cast ballots that may well be the end of Florida as we know it. That’s right, folks. It’s over. Kiss it all goodbye.

Because on November’s ballot is an amendment so evil and insidious that mere contact with the ink will be enough to turn toddlers into meth-crazed cannibals. I don’t even want to say it.
Fine, I’ll say it: Medical Marijuana.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.

Congratulations, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie: you’ve driven at least one family out of your state due to your complete lack of compassion when it comes to medical cannabis.
Meghan and Brian Wilson say that despite laws passed to help ease access to medical cannabis for children in New Jersey, their two-year-old daughter Vivian still lives a miserable existence fighting seizures caused by Dravet’s syndrome that could be helped with cannabis oil that isn’t available.

We really want to think this story is fake, because nobody can be so stupid as to force their 23-month-old baby a hit off of their weed pipe, right?
Because police in Mayville, N.Y. say two teen parents did exactly that while baby’s grandfather sat by and watched. Chautauqua County sheriff’s arrested 17-year-old Jessica Kelsey and 18-year-old George Kelsey earlier this month on charges of reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child. Both were arraigned Friday, held on a $20,000 bond.

It was a Tuesday morning in San Diego, just over a month ago on November 7th, when SDPD received reports of broken glass at a local business, with a possible burglary having had occurred overnight. Police investigators arriving on the scene quickly determined that the business in question was a medical marijuana dispensary, and the focus of their investigation quickly shifted from aiding possible burglary victims, to persecuting law abiding citizens and shuttering a legitimate business.
You see, San Diego was home to nearly 300 storefront medical marijuana dispensaries as recently as two years ago, but an intense crackdown by joint task forces, combining the might of local and federal authorities, led to nearly every single brick and mortar storefront being closed by the end of 2011.

Add this to the list of Things that Make You an Asshole: Stashing marijuana in the Minnie Mouse backpack of your friend’s 3-year-old daughter, then letting the girl get busted at preschool with said stash all in a state where marijuana is still illegal. Added? Good.
According to New York police, 24-year-old Kelly Mena is an asshole.

Stay classy, San Diego.

Estimates are that the city of San Diego has over 70,000 medical marijuana patients, yet, the city has never passed an ordinance allowing medical marijuana dispensaries, nor has it passed any official ban on the blooming industry.
This no-man’s-land of cannabis legality in America’s Finest City, compounded by the confusion and grey-area in the state medical marijuana laws, led to a rampant rise in the number of storefront weed dispensaries to nearly 300 at the peak in 2010…and then an equally rapid shuttering and/or raiding campaign that saw all but a stubborn few shops close their doors in 2011.

Mmm, science.

Fletcher, North Carolina resident Todd Stimson was arrested earlier this month for growing and selling marijuana. The only thing is, Stimson says he’s done nothing illegal. He’s licensed by the state and has even been paying taxes on his plants since his operation began in 2011 despite North Carolina not having medical marijuana laws.
