Jodie Emery testifying before the Washington Legislature in March, just after meeting U.S. Attorney John McKay, who sent her husband to federal prison

John McKay, the U.S. Attorney who prosecuted “Prince of Pot” Marc Emery, ran into Marc’s wife Jodie in Olympia, Washington one day back in March. McKay is literally responsible for putting her husband in prison. But rather than the awkward scene it could have been, their encounter ended with Jodie thanking McKay.

“Mr. McKay? I’m Jodie Emery,” the attractive 26-year-old told the flustered former prosecutor. Jodie still runs a B.C. head shop and website called Cannabis Culture

This is one of the fascinating stories about the former federal prosecutor for Western Washington which you can read at Toke‘s sister site, Seattle Weekly, in “The Evolution of John McKay,” an excellent, in-depth personality profile from reporter Nina Shapiro.

Finally some good news for Marc Emery. Emery’s wife, Jodie, tells the Canadian Press that her husband has been approved for deportation from the United States to Canada to finish out his five-year sentence for mailing cannabis seeds into the U.S.
The next step is for the Canadian government to give their approval, and Emery could be back on Canadian soil by Christmas.

Marc Emery.

Marc Emery, who was convicted and jailed for the non-violent “crime” of selling pot seeds to people in the U.S. from Canada, has been placed in solitary confinement in the prison where he is serving his 5-year sentence.
His offense now? Playing in a rock and roll band and being proud of his accomplishments in learning the bass guitar over the last two years.

Marc Emery compared the oppression of the cannabis community to that of the Jewish people

Fair Warning: This article begins with material that some may find offensive, but for a point.
“Why do Concentration Camp shower heads have eleven holes? Because Jews only have ten fingers.”
Find me a joke about the Cannabis community that borders on that kind of black humor. Go ahead, I’ll wait.
“What’s the difference between a Jew and a pizza? Pizza doesn’t scream when you put it in the oven.”
Same challenge. Still waiting.
“Holocaust jokes aren’t funny, Anne Frankly, I won’t stand for them!”
Gotta love wordplay. Some of my favorite jokes are the result of clever word choice. Still nothing on the offensive Cannabis jokes? Well, then.
Many will find these kinds of jokes offensive. To be honest, they’re some of the tamest Jewish jokes that I know. It’s called Gallows Humor, the art of turning tragedy into hilarity, because the alternative to doing so is to give in to despair and disgust. For an oppressed people to claim the language used in their own dehumanization is a form of cultural empowerment, and part of that includes the use of their own slurs and derogatory humor.
If a Jew tells Holocaust jokes, do you have the right to be offended?
We will return to that question shortly.
I am a Jew, and I am a Cannabis activist, and I’m pretty annoyed that Marc Emery would equate one with the other

The federal Drug Enforcement Administration sent three more letters to Seattle-area medical marijuana dispensaries last week, agency spokesperson Jodie Underwood has confirmed. The letters “strongly advised” the dispensaries to pay “prompt attention” that they are in violation of federal law, and directed them to close down with 30 days.

That brings the total to 29 Washington dispensaries which have received threatening letters so far from the feds, reports Nina Shapiro at Seattle Weekly. This includes 23 facilities which got letters sent on August 18, three more sent out on August 30, and three last week, according to Dr. Decrim of WA CANN, the Washington Cannabis Alert and News Network.

Russ Belville probably knows people who like kiddy porn, and it is unclear what his involvement in this kiddy-porn scandal really is.
Okay….That is probably not true. Or maybe it is. Who knows?
But I can reference it and speculate here and on my personal blog because the internet is a wonderful place. In turn, unsuspecting and gullible people on the internet could read my piece, and many may start to spread this dirty rumor around.
The next thing you know, Russ is knee-deep in some kiddy-porn scandal that he has nothing to do with, and which is weakly evidenced as ever even existing.
But the damage is done, right?

Wanna see a lot more of this at Hempfest? You could next year, if I-502 passes.

A Hempfest marred by dozens of busts for people just passing the joint at 4:20? Say it ain’t so!

It could happen if I-502 passes and is enforced as written.
But you’d think Seattle Hempfest would be heaven on Earth after the passage of “legalization” Initiative 502 in Washington state, if all the information you had to go by was a Marc Emery quote — posted by trophy wife Jodie — on Facebook today.

“Next year at Seattle Hempfest, if I-502 passes, everyone will be able to carry an ounce of marijuana around on their person and not be concerned with arrest!” Emery wrote from prison. “Or losing their job! Or losing custody of their children. Or violating probation. Or getting a criminal record.

Legalize It

Seattle Hempfest and two Seattle churches will host sneak previews of the new cannabis documentary Legalize It, a “socially conscious” film on Proposition 19, the 2010 campaign to legalize marijuana in California.
Scenes from the film will be shown at Seattle Hempfest on Saturday, August 18 in the afternoon in the Hemposium, followed by a panel discussion with the filmmakers and film participants. Participants include Presidential candidate Governor Gary Johnson, his running mate Judge Jim Gray, Dan Rush (director, National Medical Cannabis & Hemp Division at UFCW) and I-502 “legalization” advocate and celebrity trophy wife Jodie Emery.

Marc Emery: Two years to go

Marc Emery, the self-proclaimed “Prince of Pot” who is doing time in a United States federal prison, now has just two years left of his five-year sentence for selling marijuana seeds to American customers from his headquarters in Canada.

His wife, Jodie, who has spearheaded the Emery empire in the Prince’s absence, is marking the occasion with him in Mississippi, reports James Lewis at Vancouver’s CKNW radio.
“Eighty-five percent of the five-year sentence — that’s July 9, 2014 (when) he would be released,” Jodie said. “But we know that next year, Marc is eligible to apply for transfer to Canadian prisons, and he’ll be doing that in April.
