It was a Happy Halloween at Lightshade Labs, judging by this photo from the store’s Facebook page. But it’s probably an even happier March, since two Lightshade branches are among the latest shops licensed by the City of Denver to sell recreational marijuana. In the two-plus weeks since our last update, Denver has okayed seven more stores, bringing the official total to 54. All of them are included here in this list compiled by Westword’s Michael Roberts, along with photos, videos, links and excerpts from reviews of the ones visited by Westword marijuana critic William Breathes. Count them down below.

Think the New Jersey Department of Health has your back if you’re an MMJ patient? You’re wrong.
Only 78 percent of New Jersey’s 1,670 medical marijuana patients have made a marijuana purchase from one of only three medical marijuana dispensaries around the state, things are going just fine according to the state Health Department. Not only that, but the department has no plans to expand the list of qualifying conditions until at least next year. Sorry those of you with severe, chronic pain or post-traumatic stress disorder – you’ll have to go on being a criminal if you choose to use cannabis.

CBD-rich hash oil.

A Georgia bill that would (sort of) legalize medical cannabis for children only has gained overwhelming approval from the state House yesterday and now heads to the state Senate for approval.
House Bill 1107, also called the “Therapeutic Cannabidiol Research Act of 2014”, would allow for clinical trials on CBD for children suffering from severe forms of epilepsy. The bill does not legalize CBD for adults, nor does it come anywhere close to legalizing medical cannabis as a whole.

The Mile High City.

Legal marijuana sales have been going on in Colorado now for just about two months, and so far the sky hasn’t fallen. In fact, it’s just the opposite. Marijuana taxes are pumping money into state coffers and (despite high prices) the shops have all operated without any federal intervention.
Want to know which ones are open and what they are like? Our friends at the Denver Michael Roberts at the Denver Westword has been compiling a list of all 47 recreational dispensaries in the city so far, including links to reviews of most of the shops themselves. Page down for more.

High CBD Purple Diesel oil.

Florida state representatives made drug law history yesterday when they held the first ever Florida legislative hearing on a specific medical therapeutic use of marijuana. The topic was “Charlotte’s Web” a strain of the cannabis said to be greatly effective in the treatment of pediatric epilepsy.
In some folks’ view, a great advantage of high CBD strains is that it is has no euphoric effect. Bummer. But if that’s what it takes to get the stuff out of the arms of John Law and into the hands of patients, so be it.

What do the Seattle Seahawks, Arizona Cardinals, Oakland Raiders, San Francisco 49ers, San Diego Chargers, Detroit Lions, Chicago Bears, New England Patriots, Washington Redskins and, of course, the Denver Broncos all have in common? They are NFL teams based in states (and a district) where medical marijuana is legal. Currently, NFL policy doesn’t allow players on those teams to use the herb to help their ailments, though.
But could that be changing? When asked about medical pot use for athletes this week, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodel told ESPN that he isn’t going to write off cannabis as a therapy but shied away from outright approving of the plant.

Medical marijuana could be coming to New York sooner than later, with a plan from Gov. Andrew Cuomo coming in a few days that could allow hospitals to dispense the herb.
Members of Cuomo’s staff leaked the plan Saturday to State Assemblyman Richard Gottfried, a medical marijuana advocate who has pushed for legislation in the past. Gottfried called the program “limited and cumbersome,” but conceded that it’s a step in the right direction.

Lorelei Ulrich from mmj4l.com

Could a six-year-old sick child help turn medical marijuana laws in Pennsylvania? If lawmakers there have a heart, the answer will hopefully be yes.
Lorelei Ulrich has been steadily declining in health for four years, suffering from epilepsy that has her lifeless, not wanting to eat or play and basically wasting away. Her parents say that all of the treatments they have tried haven’t helped – but medical cannabis treatments high in CBD have worked for kids in other states and now the Ulriches are fighting to make it legal in their state.

A leading Jamaican justice official says Jamaica will consider changes to their cannabis laws, easing restrictions on a plant many worldwide already associate with the tiny, beautiful island nation.
Justice Minister Mark Golding tells the Jamaica Gleaner that changes to state marijuana laws in Colorado and Washington and the subsequent reaction by the federal government are signs of a shifting attitude towards cannabis. Golding also points out that much of the fight against ganja in his country over the last fifty years has been at the insistence of the United States.
