The decision by the people of this country concerning legalization of the marijuana medicinal plant that has been used by humans for thousands of years is based in choosing between two opinions. The first one, articulated by the "father" of marijuana prohibition in the 1930-s and the second one by Dr Grinspoon, one of the leading contemporary experts in this country.
These are the the direct quotes from the prohibitionist Harry Anslinger pushing the "Marijuana Tax Act" of 1937 that led to the subsequent demonizing of this quintessential medicinal plant:
"There are 100,000 total marijuana smokers in the US, and most are Negroes, Hispanics, Filipinos, and entertainers. Their Satanic music, jazz, and swing, result from marijuana use. This marijuana causes white women to seek sexual relations with Negroes, entertainers, and any others.”
“…the primary reason to outlaw marijuana is its effect on the degenerate races.”
“Reefer makes darkies think they’re as good as white men.”
“Marijuana leads to pacifism and communist brainwashing”
“You smoke a joint and you’re likely to kill your brother.”
“Marijuana is the most violence-causing drug in the history of mankind.”And this is what Dr. Grinspoon said in 2006 about Cannabis Sativa medicinal Plant:
"Cannabis will one day be seen as a wonder drug, as was penicillin in the 1940s. Like penicillin, herbal marijuana is remarkably nontoxic, has a wide range of therapeutic applications and would be quite inexpensive if it were legal".
Dr. Lester Grinspoon, professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, Los Angeles Times, May 5, 2006 "
These are two opinions the citizens around the country will be asked to compare and to choose from. I do not believe that the choice is exceedingly difficult one. What I believe is that the fear-tactics must be rejected once and for all, and at least medical marijuana should be legalized in all 50 States ASAP!

Good job Utah. So now you put Hikers at risk because when they go out in the woods, these Pot farmers are going to buy guns and hire people to make sure no one wonders too far off of the trail.. if that happens, we know what they will do to the hikers.

This story makes me laugh because of two reasons, the first being that I am from Utah. The second being that only my state would think it were appropriate to rely on the public for spotting outdoor marijuana grow operations. They've obviously never been on the internet before. Utah Trolls Unite.

i am fearful of the situation that utah law enforcement has thrust upon the populace of utah.
everyone is a potential snitch, so how are growers going to react? if they are responsible citizens they will take it elsewhere or give it up. unfortunately, if they are growing on public lands in quantities too big to just abandon, they aren't responsible citizens, under any possible definition of the term.
bottom line, if hikers or others are killed in utah because of this program, the utah law enforcement organizations will be accessorial.

Asking for help online IS not very thought out, but I pity every single troll/pot smoker that trolled this site and thinks it's okay to plant mj on public land using unrestricted methods of farming that frack the ecosystem....not to mention the violent nature of the growers. I have a friend who works for the waterboard in CA and her life is in danger every time she has to go into public land to monitor the water quality. F**k pot users who don't give a damn. I can't wait for it to become legal in CA so safer farming methods are used.

I am ambivalent about mj. But If I am bird watching, hiking or whatever & get hurt by a booby trap or shot at by a mj grower on public lands I might just have to spike plots. Happy Trips.
MJ has medicinal uses, but it always a wonder that mj users eschew marinol
Also, some hate cigarettes. Plant smoke only is dangerous if it comes from tobacco. You can take any other plant, dry it, roll it & smoke it. No problem. Ya right. mj use crowd has warts too. Their agenda isn't exactly on scientific truth and reason.

Marijuana is the safest therapeutic substance known to man.. it has never killed anyone and it has countless benefits... it's not illegal because it's dangerous (which if it was that would be beside the point because eating to much fat is dangerous.. walking out your door could be dangerous) but because of big $$ corporations buying govt votes.. educate yourself and quit believing all the propaganda the govt feeds you

I hesitate to say it, but there is an easy fix for this. If the website requires authentication (including SSN and/or Driver's license), then they will dramatically cut down on fake tips while having minimal impact on real tips. The subset of people who are ignorant enough to help the government dictate what citizens can do on private property are probably a similar subset that believe the government should know everything about its citizens.

Legalize it so we can all get the economic boost that Detroit's gotten, put the militant growers out of business, grow our own or buy from a "legal" place. I can't see any down side to it, except a lot of wasted $$ tax dollars being saved.

Why does the harmless truth about Pot cause so much fear in the hearts of those that suck on the taxpayers' tits for their existence? Is it because they are all so hopelessly addicted to paycheques, and so utterly useless doing anything else, and in their true sociopathic pattern will screw anyone/everyone over for a dollar?

How is it that tobacco smoke is harmful and mj smoke is God's gift to mankind. Can you pick, dry, roll any plant other than tobacco and the smoke will not harm your lung function. That is a crock of shit on your part.
If mj is so great then would you let Cheech & Chong operate heavy equipment? Would you insure them as an insurance agent? If there is an effect, how long do you have to wait until you operate. Can you cite a time period? Can you recite a study or is this something we have to figure out over the next 50 years an o many accident later?
Yes, mj has some medicinal purposes. It may not have to be smoked. And you are blowing some smoke.

platnim replied to Johannes:
you sir are ignorant.you dont have to smoke pot to get the desired effect. there are vaporizors that dont produce smoke, there is a pill form, it can be injested, an im sure that western medicine and technology can find a way to inject the "t.h.c." into your vein. so i dont HAVE to smoke it. as far as your insurance goes, yes i would insure both cheech and chong. and im pretty sure that they both have a drivers licence and insurance at the moment. just because you watch a movie dosent mean your an expert. why dont you try it just once and you can see first hand what the effects are. but remember: like any drug, you will grow a tolerance and the effects will not be as intence. i wont drive a car the first time i take a painkiller that was prescribed to me, just as you should wait till your second injestion to understand what some small amount that you can before making ignorant comments about a situation you know nothing about.

Hello everyone,
I love the narrow sightedness with which you Cannabis proponent view the whole Cannabis debate!
I'm for LEGALIZED Med. MJ, but I'm also FOR the utter DESTURCTION of all the Mexican Drug Cartel 'Farms' on Public Lands!
You people commenting against the Utah tip line are utterly and completely morally culpable in the DEATHS of ANY hikers, campers, atv'ers, bird watchers, photographers, et al, who are MURDERED by the Machine Gun carrying Mexican Drug Cartel soldiers guarding and cultivating these 'farms'!
There are REAMS of video evidence that not only are the M.D.C. soldiers using AK-47's (the REAL ones, NOT the semi-auto sporting rifles in so many American homes), M-16's (some 203 models-the ones with the 40mm GRENADE attachment), MP5K's, FNL's, etc., all of which are TRUE FULL AUTO Military Weapons!
But hey, you don't mind, do you?! So long as you can toke your doobies, get your lids when you want them, you've got no problem with the M.D.C. soldiers murdering any innocent families and other Americans on American Public Lands!!!!
What a wonderful group you are!
Go ahead and keep hittin off that joint in your hands..pass it around why don't you?.......and while you're at it, don't you think it would be WONDERFUL if you could be out in the fresh mountain air, atop a mountain peak, splendid view all around amidst the trees...where you could light up a joint and enjoy some great Weed amongst the weeds.......and maybe even you could find some fresh grown plants of your own.....................................................I'm sure you could ask some of your fellow Cannabis Buds from the Mexican Drug Cartels in that area to help you acquire some for you..........make sure to take a long as MANY of your Weed friends as you can.....it'll help the rest of us out a great deal!
Cheers from Wyoming.
