San Jose Medical Marijuana Patients Want Police Raids To Stop

​A crowd of about 60 patients and advocates came to the San Jose City Council meeting in San Jose, California on Tuesday afternoon to ask Mayor Chuck Reed and council members to put an end to raids on medical marijuana dispensaries carried out by a local multi-agency police force.

San Jose resident Michael Gammino, one of the protesters, said he uses medical marijuana for insomnia and for arthritis in his knees, but on Tuesday he said he’s considering buying pot on the streets because he fears getting it at dispensaries will get him in trouble with the police, reports KTVU.

“We’ve gone so far and now to take it away like this,” Gammino said. “I don’t want to break the law… so what’s my alternative? I have to break the law.”

The Santa Clara County Specialized Enforcement team has conducted citywide raids over the past month, with some claiming the police have been using aggressive and excessive force in a misguided effort to shut down facilities in the city which are complying with state law.

Student Snitches On High School Pot Dealer Via Text Message

​A Florida high school student’s text message resulted in police arresting another student and charging him with selling marijuana on campus.

The Fort Myers Police Department got an anonymous text on Tuesday about a student selling marijuana from his car and backpack at Fort Myers High School, reports Naples News.
After cops notified the principal, Tyler Lecky, 17, was yanked from class and searched. Two plastic bags of marijuana were discovered in his backpack and car. One contained 15.7 grams of cannabis, and the other contained 7.9 grams.
Lecky was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana over 20 grams, and for sale of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school.
Just last month, the cops gave students at the school “tip” cards encouraging them to anonymously text “crime tips” to police and “keep their school safe.”
I guess they feel it’s important to reach future citizens of the police state at a young age, so they can be safely inculcated in informant culture and will turn into nice obedient worker drones in the future.

LA May Amend Ordinance To Allow More Cannabis Dispensaries

​The Los Angeles City Council on Wednesday will consider amending its medical marijuana ordinance, because one of its obscure provisions unexpectedly disqualified 140 cannabis dispensaries from continuing operations, leaving only 40 shops.

When the council approved the ordinance last spring, it allowed up to 180 dispensaries — those that had registered with the city before a moratorium was imposed in 2007 — to stay open, if they were at least 1,000 feet from homes, schools, religious institutions and other dispensaries, reports NBC Los Angeles.

Father Lights Joint To Celebrate Baby’s Birth; Gets Arrested

​A new father in Pennsylvania is facing marijuana charges after he lit up a joint — instead of a cigar — to celebrate his child’s birth at Uniontown Hospital Tuesday morning.

Police didn’t release the man’s name, but said he was found smoking pot in the designated smoking area of the hospital, reports the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. He will face marijuana charges, according to authorities.
A nurse smelled the marijuana when she took a cigarette break in the same area. She said she saw two men in the smoking area, but did not see either smoking cannabis.
A hospital security guard called police about 3:20 (oh man, not 4:20?) a.m., according to Uniontown Police Sgt. Jonathan Grabiak.

Cambridge Cops Want To Ban Public Marijuana Use

​One year after Massachusetts voters decriminalized possession of an ounce or less of marijuana, local police, apparently unable to adjust to the new reality, are still busily trying to find ways around the law. Now Cambridge Police Commissioner Robert Haas is proposing two ordinances to ban “public consumption” of cannabis.

Violators of the proposed public consumption ordinance would be fined $300 for each offense, reports Shannon Young at The Boston Globe.

Rapper Wiz Khalifa Arrested For Marijuana

Wiz Khalifa’s mugshot: The rising young rapper was busted for pot after a concert Monday night in North Carolina.

​Wiz Khalifa, the Pittsburgh MC whose star is rapidly rising in hip-hop circles, was arrested on marijuana charges Monday night after a performance at Eastern Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina.

Wiz is charged with trafficking marijuana, maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. According to his lawyer, Khalifa was found with under two ounces of cannabis, reports WITN.
Nine other individuals were also arrested on the same charges. While Wiz and his tour manager, William Dzomback, posted bond at 8 a.m. Tuesday, the other seven remained behind bars.

​In California, “No one cares if you smoke a joint or not,” Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger said Monday night on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

The Governator made the remark while discussing Prop 19, which would have legalized adult recreational pot use in the state, reports Mary Dooe at CBS News.
“Proposition 19 went a little bit too far, I think,” Schwarzenegger said of the failed measure. But he added a note of hope for the future.
“Propositions don’t die because the idea is bad, it just dies because it is written wrong,” the Governor added.
Arnie said his decision to sign a bill last month that reduces marijuana possession charges for up to an ounce from a misdemeanor to a civil fine hurt Prop 19’s chances of passing.

Dutch Cops Distribute Scratch & Sniff Marijuana Cards

​Police in the Netherlands are handing out about 30,000 marijuana-scented scratch and sniff cards to citizens in a laughable effort to uncover illegal urban cannabis gardens.

The cards are being distributed to help people recognize what cannabis smells like, according to authorities in Rotterdam and The Hague, reports BBC.
The cards also include a handy number to call to squeal on your pot-growing neighbors. 
Dutch police routinely look the other way as long as citizens don’t grow more than five marijuana plants for personal use.

According to the organizers of the Kush Expo, it will be “the biggest medical marijuana expo to hit Orange County, California,” with hundreds of booths and thousands of giveaways.
The Expo is open from 2-9 p.m on Friday, November 12, from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. on Saturday, and from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. on Sunday.
