It’s easier to get in than to get out… usually.

‚ÄčA man climbed over a fence and tried to break into an Oregon jail after drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana, according to police.

Medford, Oregon Police Lt. Bob Hansen said that about 4:10 a.m. Monday, jail officials saw a man scaling the fence around an area where officers unload incoming prisoners and take them inside, reports Anita Burke at the Southern Oregon Mail Tribune.
The jail officials confronted the man on the grounds and called police, who cited the intruder, James Merrill DeVore, for disorderly conduct and trespassing.

Police said the 28-year-old DeVore was distraught over the death of his mother two years ago.
He told officers he “needed help,” and when he didn’t get an answer at the jail’s front door, he “decided to go around back.”
It must have been the guy’s lucky night. Even with two criminal charges, DeVore still didn’t get inside the jail.
He was taken to the county’s drunk tank and referred for mental health services. He’ll have to appear in court later for sentencing.
