DFW NORML

Calling all creative cannabis consumers! The Dallas-Forth Worth chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (DFW NORML) has announced a 48-Hour Hemp T-Shirt Design Contest.
In the next 48 hours, the group has to decide on its second hemp t-shirt design. The best design wins $50, two copies of the shirt and a free one-year membership to DFW NORML.
The contest is to perfect the first t-shirt design specifically for Texas marijuana activists — but you do NOT have to live in Texas (or even in the United States) to enter.

Shaun McAlister
“We’d like to find a way to creatively convey the Texas Hemp Flag idea with a t-shirt, to help raise money for the chapter and start raising eyebrows here in Texas”

The Global Marijuana March falls on Cinco de Mayo this year, so here in DFW we’re calling ours ‘Cinco de Mota,’ Shaun McAlister of DFW NORML told Toke of the Town on Monday. “Sure, ‘mota’ is Latin American Spanish Slang for ‘weed.’
“But the name acknowledges more than just Cinco de Mayo,” McAlister told us. “The name is also a grim acknowledgement from our community of the more than 50,000 Mexican lives that have been lost since President Felipe Calderon launched a massive military crackdown against the cartels in 2006.
“We’ll have live music, food trucks, vendors, speakers, prizes, fire spinners, free runners and more,” McAlister said. “All the details are at www.dfwnorml.org/march.
“As part of Cinco de Mota, we’re having a Texas flag made of hemp with a pot leaf instead of a Lone Star,” McAlister told us. “My intention is to create a symbol for Texas marijuana activists to rally behind, that helps make activism look as patriotic as it feels.
“It’ll be hand-stitched by one of our members as it was back in George Washington’s day, to give us a rich story to tell about our new symbol,” McAlister said.

DFW NORML
he design MUST include a Texas flag, with a pot leaf instead of a star – and should be more than just a rectangle slapped on the front as the example above illustrates.

“We’re also having hemp t-shirts made, see attached for our first design which features the DFW NORML logo in green on a white shirt,” McAlister told us. “The flag design will be printed on our charcoal grey shirts, so it stands out better.
“We’d like to find a way to creatively convey the Texas Hemp Flag idea with a t-shirt, to help raise money for the chapter and start raising eyebrows here in Texas,” McAlister explained. “Instead of just slapping a boring rectangle on our shirts, we wanted to try and come up with something better but haven’t had much luck, so we’re hosting a 48 hour design contest with a $50 cash prize.”
Requirements for the Contest

The design MUST include a Texas flag, with a pot leaf instead of a star, and it should be more than just a rectangle slapped on the front as the accompanying example illustrates. The flag can be blowing in the wind, contained within the shape of Texas “or anything else the creative community dreams up,” according to DFW NORML.
