The War On Drugs — a campaign to fight illegal drugs in the United States — was titled as such by President Nixon in 1971. It was started about 40 years before President Obama took office and stopped using the term (but continuing the policies associated with it).

The campaign against illegal drugs has had wide-ranging effects on American society — politically, economically and socially.
