Fox News discovers hash oil, hilarious fear mongering ensues

What Fox News would have you believe a dab will do.

Hide yo kids, hide yo wife and hide yo husband. Hash oil is coming to town and it’s dangerous!
Well, it isn’t really dangerous, and Fox News never explains why they seem to think it is – they merely claim it’s “dangerous to handle”. But whatever, it looks good and scary in their headline.

Yes, according to Fox News, “drug dealers are peddling a new marijuana product called Wax” and the scary part? It looks like lip balm! Gasp! The intrepid reporter also claims that a dab is the same as smoking as many as 20 joints.
The report stems from a bust in Georgia last week where cops say a dealer had about 80 grams and was selling to high school kids.
“It’s just an extra kick,” Roswell, GA cop Zachary Frommer said. “It gets ’em higher and it gets ’em higher faster. The 15-20 joints you smoke can equal a dose of the Wax.”
“The wax” is also known as “Butter” and “Honeycomb”, according to this amazingly detailed and well-researched report. Apparently kids are putting it in lip balm tubes to hide it, which led the reporter to assume that people are eating the stuff too (we’re sure a few are, but BHO is not best when used as an edible and we doubt many people in Georgia are wasting it that way at $80 a gram).
Beware, people. “The Wax” is easy to make, just “dangerous handle”. Of course, that isn’t true at all, the reporter is merely clueless as to how hash oil is made and didn’t understand the explanation given by cops.
“You’re getting a lot of home cooks, a lot of teenagers and others that are trying to make it at home,” Frommer told his local Fox affiliate. “And because of the things you need to use to make it, because they’re flammable and they’re combustible and you may end up blowing up your house or burning yourself.”
So, by not understanding what hash oil is, Fox news has now begun to spread the disinformation that hash oil itself is combustible and that it will blow people up. That couldn’t be farther from the truth. Of course, people are blowing themselves up making hash oil because of the flammable butane fumes used in the process – but that has nothing to do with hash oil and everything to do with stupidity. After all, we don’t blame turkeys for grease fires burning down garages every Thanksgiving.
