Our guy gets the story: Toke of the Town Northern California Correspondent Jack Rikess hard at work doing his research at the 4th Annual S.F. Medical Cannabis Competition on Sunday. By the way, Jack reports there was half a pound of pot in that joint.

San Francisco’s 4th Annual S.F. Medical Cannabis Competition, The Patient’s Choice, was held Sunday.

Now that Toke of the Town‘s Northern California correspondent, Jack Rikess, has sufficiently recovered from the festivities, here’s his report.

Don’t be too hard on Mr. Rikess. Judges at the competition — including our hard-working correspondent — had to sample more than 50 cannabis strains and products.

It’s always a good sign when you can smell the party from blocks away.

The day and the weather couldn’t have been more perfect for San Francisco’s 4th Annual S.F. Medical Cannabis Competition, The Patient’s Choice. After some delays including moving the cannabis flavored festivities to a new location at the last moment (due to law enforcement objections), the Bacchanal of Buds went off without a hitch for the red-eyed competition goers.

Study: It’s Either A Casino Or A Pot Farm For This Hard Luck Town

That looks a lot better than slot machines to me.

A study funded by casino developers says that a large-scale marijuana farm is the only other economically viable option for a hard-luck San Francisco Bay area town, as officials consider the fate of a major strip of waterfront property.

Environmental consultants evaluated 28 different proposed uses submitted by the public for the land. They determined that only a medical marijuana cultivation facility could generate enough revenue to pay market price for the 422-acre property in Richmond, California, reports Katherine Tam of the Contra Costa Times.

The plan calls for medical marijuana to be grown, packaged, stored and sold within the century-old buildings where the Winehaven winery operated in the pre-Prohibition days of the early 1900s. According to the study, city coffers would swell with $3.2 million a year in additional tax revenue, under a five percent tax rate, depending on how much the cannabis is worth.

Irvin Rosenfeld is one of my personal heroes. One of only four surviving medical marijuana patients in the U.S. who receive cannabis legally from the federal government, Irv also unofficially holds the world record for smoking more joints (documented through his medical records) — 115,000 — than any other human being. (Just putting you on notice, Irv — I’m doing all I can to catch up with you.)

Rosenfeld will be in Denver for a speaking engagement and book signing this Saturday, November 13, at the Oriental Theatre in Denver at 3 p.m.

Father Lights Joint To Celebrate Baby’s Birth; Gets Arrested

A new father in Pennsylvania is facing marijuana charges after he lit up a joint — instead of a cigar — to celebrate his child’s birth at Uniontown Hospital Tuesday morning.

Police didn’t release the man’s name, but said he was found smoking pot in the designated smoking area of the hospital, reports the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. He will face marijuana charges, according to authorities.

A nurse smelled the marijuana when she took a cigarette break in the same area. She said she saw two men in the smoking area, but did not see either smoking cannabis.

A hospital security guard called police about 3:20 (oh man, not 4:20?) a.m., according to Uniontown Police Sgt. Jonathan Grabiak.

One year after Massachusetts voters decriminalized possession of an ounce or less of marijuana, local police, apparently unable to adjust to the new reality, are still busily trying to find ways around the law. Now Cambridge Police Commissioner Robert Haas is proposing two ordinances to ban “public consumption” of cannabis.

Violators of the proposed public consumption ordinance would be fined $300 for each offense, reports Shannon Young at The Boston Globe.

Rapper Wiz Khalifa Arrested For Marijuana

Wiz Khalifa’s mugshot: The rising young rapper was busted for pot after a concert Monday night in North Carolina.

Wiz Khalifa, the Pittsburgh MC whose star is rapidly rising in hip-hop circles, was arrested on marijuana charges Monday night after a performance at Eastern Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina.

Wiz is charged with trafficking marijuana, maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. According to his lawyer, Khalifa was found with under two ounces of cannabis, reports WITN.

Nine other individuals were also arrested on the same charges. While Wiz and his tour manager, William Dzomback, posted bond at 8 a.m. Tuesday, the other seven remained behind bars.

Arnie burns one down in the documentary “Pumping Iron”

In California, “No one cares if you smoke a joint or not,” Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger said Monday night on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

The Governator made the remark while discussing Prop 19, which would have legalized adult recreational pot use in the state, reports Mary Dooe at CBS News.

“Proposition 19 went a little bit too far, I think,” Schwarzenegger said of the failed measure. But he added a note of hope for the future.

“Propositions don’t die because the idea is bad, it just dies because it is written wrong,” the Governor added.

Arnie said his decision to sign a bill last month that reduces marijuana possession charges for up to an ounce from a misdemeanor to a civil fine hurt Prop 19’s chances of passing.

Kush Expo Coming To Anaheim This Weekend

Kush Expo, a medical marijuana show featuring booths, seminars, and presentations by guest speakers, will be held this weekend at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California.

According to the organizers of the Kush Expo, it will be “the biggest medical marijuana expo to hit Orange County, California,” with hundreds of booths and thousands of giveaways.

The Expo is open from 2-9 p.m on Friday, November 12, from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. on Saturday, and from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. on Sunday.

Porn star Capri Anderson, who recently called the cops on Charlie Sheen, was a teenage pothead! Yeah, I know. But that seems to be a pretty big deal to RadarOnline.com.

The porn star who Charlie Sheen recently trapped inside a New York City hotel bathroom during a cocaine-fueled sex-for-money exchange got busted for pot seven years ago, when she was only 15 — and the national press is now in a fine tizzy over the girl’s “secret drug arrest.”

Christina Walsh, a.k.a. porn starlet Capri Anderson, was arrested in April 2003 after she was caught with marijuana and drug paraphernalia, reports RadarOnline.com. At the time, Walsh was just 15 years old and in high school. (I know: apparently very high school.)
