North Carolina Linebacker Sturdivant Faces Marijuana Charge

North Carolina’s Quan Sturdivant, a likely first-round draft choice in next year’s NFL draft, was arrested Saturday morning on marijuana charges.

​North Carolina star linebacker Quan Sturdivant, who was a first team All-ACC selection in 2009, was charged with possession of marijuana following his Saturday morning arrest.

Sturdivant, 21, of Oakboro, N.C., was arrested by Albermarle police and charged with possession of less than half an ounce of marijuana, misdemeanor, reports the Raleigh News & Observer.
The senior linebacker was pulled over at Bojangles’ at 11:15 a.m., according to police, reports Jonathan Jones at The Daily Tar Heel.
“We are disappointed in Quan’s actions over the weekend,” said North Carolina football coach Butch Davis.
“This is not the type of behavior we expect from our student-athletes,” Davis said. “In addition to the outcome of the legal process, he will also face disciplinary action from within the football program beginning immediately.”

​The famed Emerald Empire HempFest is happening again this year, July 16-18, in Eugene, Oregon.

The annual event (third weekend in July), held in Maurie Jacobs Park in Eugene, is a free event.
“Education is the primary goal of this all-volunteer effort,” said Dan Koozer, executive director of Emerald Empire HempFest. “Please join us in the fight to roll back prohibition and increase production and usage of one of the world’s most beneficial plants!”
According to Koozer, there will be two stages with musical entertainment, a food court featuring nutritious foods, as well as art booths, vendors featuring many hemp products, and nonprofit booths.
“Guest speakers will discuss the environmental benefits of hemp, medical uses of marijuana and the futility and negative consequences of prohibition,” Koozer said.

​Former Major League Baseball star Dmitri Young said he wanted to give fans an explanation of why he was carrying a small amount of cannabis in an Illinois airport Monday morning that led to misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

“Since retirement, I’ve been in a lot of serious pain,” the former Detroit Tigers star told Shawn Windsor of the Detroit Free Press.
“From my quads to my back to anxiety from my mother’s death, it takes a toll,” Young said. “I didn’t want to use pills. I had already been to rehab before and knew I didn’t want to be on opiates. So, in talking with physicians, we decided this was the best way to go.”
“I used poor judgment,” Young said. “And I have to pay the consequences.”

The first issue’s of Ziggy’s MarijuanaMan book will hit shelves across the country on April 20, 2011, and Ziggy will be making an exclusive one-day-ony appearance this month at Comic-Con International in support of the new comic.

South Africa: Rastafarians Vow To Keep Smoking Cannabis

​Two physically disabled Rastafarian brothers in South Africa, who have already been arrested three times for marijuana, said the law will not stop them from smoking the illegal herb, reports Kathryn Parkes at the Daily Dispatch.

The Rastas said they need to smoke cannabis, which they call “dagga,” in order to “connect with their God.”
Zerah Mayo and his older brother Adwah Kamini had their case thrown out of court on a technicality last Friday after they were arrested and charged with selling marijuana earlier this year.
The brothers called it a victory, and said they only smoke dagga and do not sell it.

​Paris Hilton was arrested Friday in South Africa for possession of marijuana, but a court there has dropped charges against the socialite.

Hilton appeared late Friday in a FIFA World Cup courtroom in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, after being arrested on suspicion of possessing cannabis at a football game between Brazil and the Netherlands, reports Andrew Dampf of The Associated Press.
Neither Hilton nor court officials said anything at her court appearance around midnight local timed. She was quickly led away to another room, according to a reporter on the scene.

Much of the primo Colombian flooding the U.S. marijuana market in the late 70s could be traced back to the Black Tuna Gang, a major smuggling ring which once brought 500 tons of pot into the United States over a 16-month period.
I remember well the sweet, potent buds of Santa Marta Gold that were available in 1977 and 1978. Possessed of a soaring sativa high and mind-blowing expansion in the lungs, this ‘lombo weed became the gold standard of connoisseur pot to a generation of appreciative stoners. To this day, I think of Colombian weed every time I hear Rush or Blue Öyster Cult.

Isaac Hilton, 29, will be spending at least 21 months in prison on marijuana and gun charges.

​Former NFL player Isaac HIlton has been sentenced to at least 21 months in prison on marijuana and gun charges in Pennsylvania, reports Michael David Smith at NBC Sports.

Police raided Hilton’s apartment in March 2009, where they said they found 70 bags of marijuana and a 12-gauge Mossburg shotgun.
Police claimed Hilton sold marijuana to a confidential informant from his apartment in January 2009. 
Hilton was prohibited from possessing a firearm because of an armed robbery conviction in South Carolina,according to police.
A seventh-round draft pick of the New York Giants in 2004, Hilton also played briefly for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Carolina Panthers. He also played for the Canadian Football League’s Toronto Argonauts.
Last year, he played in the Arena Football League, according to J.M. Gatskie at Football News Now.

Donald Duck just wanted some pizza, dude. But he managed to ruffle a few feathers trying to get it.

​I know drunk driving’s no laughing matter, but this still quacks me up. Police in Massillon, Ohio, have arrested 51-year-old Donald Norman Duck after he pulled into a drive through pizzeria and repeatedly bumped the car ahead of him, reports Mike Waterhouse at NewsNet5.

Duck was taken into custody at about 5:25 p.m. Saturday, facing a felony charge of drunk driving and misdemeanor charges of marijuana possession and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to Ben Muessig at AOL News.
According to the driver whose vehicle was repeatedly struck, Donald Duck stuck his head out the car window and shouted, “Sorry dude, something must be wrong with my brakes.”
