Fair Warning: This article begins with material that some may find offensive, but for a point.
“Why do Concentration Camp shower heads have eleven holes? Because Jews only have ten fingers.”
Find me a joke about the Cannabis community that borders on that kind of black humor. Go ahead, I’ll wait.
“What’s the difference between a Jew and a pizza? Pizza doesn’t scream when you put it in the oven.”
Same challenge. Still waiting.
“Holocaust jokes aren’t funny, Anne Frankly, I won’t stand for them!”
Gotta love wordplay. Some of my favorite jokes are the result of clever word choice. Still nothing on the offensive Cannabis jokes? Well, then.
Many will find these kinds of jokes offensive. To be honest, they’re some of the tamest Jewish jokes that I know. It’s called Gallows Humor, the art of turning tragedy into hilarity, because the alternative to doing so is to give in to despair and disgust. For an oppressed people to claim the language used in their own dehumanization is a form of cultural empowerment, and part of that includes the use of their own slurs and derogatory humor.
 If a Jew tells Holocaust jokes, do you have the right to be offended?
We will return to that question shortly.
I am a Jew, and I am a Cannabis activist, and I’m pretty annoyed that Marc Emery would equate one with the other.

For several years I’ve watched from Northern California as fellow Cannabis activists painted signs, rallied and gave support for those incarcerated and held for good medicine throughout the medically legal State of California.
Recently, I had the good fortune to join those in the cause at the Long Beach County Courthouse in support of an above board dispensary and co-founder, The Human Solution’s Joe Grumbine — held pending bail on Cannabis charges in the cannabis-conservative County.
It was exciting to meet friends I have only known on Facebook, but it was even more curious to see what the curbside faction was like up close and personal. It’s long been known that those in the forefront of the failed war on drugs are outspoken, to say the least.

“WHAT DO WE WANT? JUSTICE! WHEN DO WE WANT IT? NOW!
It takes purposefulness to keep a box of signs in the trunk of your car for that last minute rally.
Purposefulness, passion and a whole lot of caring come to curbside with each activist showing up for court support for those incarcerated and/or on trial for a plant.

Annual National Survey: Teen Marijuana Use Down Slightly

One of the nation’s foremost surveys on teen drug use has found that teen marijuana use is down slightly nationwide. It also shows teen cigarette use has reached an all-time low, highlighting the potential benefit of regulating marijuana and controlling sales to teens. 
The annual Monitoring the Future Survey released today by the National Institutes of Health found that from 2011 to 2012:
• Daily marijuana use decreased among 8th- and 12th-graders, while remaining the same for 10th-graders.
• Past-30-day marijuana use decreased among 8th- and 10th-graders, while increasing only slightly among 12th-graders. 
• Annual marijuana use decreased among 8th- and 10th-graders, while remaining the same for 12th-graders.

Seattle Police Change Hiring Policy Due To Pot Legalization

The Seattle Police Department on Tuesday announced that due to the recent legalization of marijuana in Washington state, job applicants will no longer be disqualified for using cannabis in the last three years — now it’s just a one-year period in which you are required not to have gotten high.

This is a big change; it makes the SPD the first police department in Washington to modify its hiring process due to marijuana legalization, reports Matt Driscoll at the Seattle Weekly.

Tokin’ Road Trip: Humboldt County’s Emerald Cup

The ninth annual Emerald Cup medical cannabis competition — a Humboldt County, California-based event in which only outdoor, sun-grown, organic marijuana and concentrates are allowed — was held this past weekend in Redway, and Toke of the Town was there.

Two hundred strains of marijuana were entered (compared to last year’s 108 entries), as well as a couple dozen concentrates. Winners were selected, and the Grand Prize winner — entry #47, ChemDawg Special Reserve, grown by Leonard Bell and Elenah Elston (first female to take the top spot in this cannabis competition) — was announced. A very happy Leonard and Elenah, who together run the company Cannabis Aficionado, won an all-expenses paid trip to Jamaica for seven days and nights.
The winning strain, according to the lab results posted on Facebook by The Emerald Cup, contains 18.4 percent THC and 0.9 percent CBD.
Entrants in the Emerald Cup are judged by entry numbers only. It’s a completely blind judging process, i.e., the judges have no idea who grew it, what strain it is, or anything else about it. Entrants are judged on the high, appearance, smell, taste, and potency, with the high counting twice as much as the other components (and rightly so).

Anonymous, Team Vendetta Announce 12-21-12 ‘aPOTcalypse’

Online marijuana legalization group Team Vendetta, working in concert with the shadowy hacktivist collective Anonymous, has announced the “aPOTcalypse,” which is what it is calling a new phase of direct action against cannabis prohibition.

“When Team Vendetta joined the legalization movement, one of the things that we wanted to accomplish was to bring something new to the movement,” our source in Team Vendetta told Toke of the Town on Monday afternoon. “Also, we have noticed the polarization of the 420 community due to infighting, so the team wanted to develop something that would help bring the cannabis community back together again to fight the war on cannabis oppression as one.
“We would like to give the 420 community an online voice and the power to protest on a different level,” our source told us. “Anonymous is actually one of the newest and truest democracies, due to its collective decisions. Its own checks and balances ensure that Anonymous is just not another bully, but rather a collective conscience as a whole.”
