Country roads, take me home to the place where medical cannabis is grown. West Virginia state lawmakers will hear two hours of testimony from medical marijuana advocates Wednesday – more than double the amount of time allotted to most issues, according to the Register-Herald.
The hearing comes thanks to a House resolution passed in W. Va. last session calling for a feasibility study on medical cannabis and is being touted as a leap by Rep. Mike Manypenny, the lone sponsor of failed medical cannabis legislation over the last two sessions.

A Tampa woman wants to get medical marijuana to save her 2-year-old daughter’s life. Although she’s still getting her cancer-stricken daughter conventional treatment, such as radiation therapy, Moriah Barnhart says that’s not enough.
And she wants options other than just chemotherapy. Long Beach city leaders have decided to allow medical marijuana collectives in the city and are working on a draft ordinance that would regulate the centers
Long Beach City Council unanimously voted on Tuesday to create laws allowing for the centers, which have been ousted from Long Beach over the last year thanks to a citywide ban. A group seeking to overturn that ban lost an appeal to a federal judge on Monday, leaving city council as one of the last options to increase cannabis access in the city.

Medical marijuana activist John Tracey was arrested (see video, below) in the parking lot of Cruzan Amphitheatre before Wednesday night’s Black Sabbath concert in West Palm Beach. He was attempting to gather signatures for a petition to allow a referendum on medical marijuana on Florida’s 2014 ballot.
According to a police booking blotter, Tracey was charged with “trespassing – fail to leave property upon order by owner.” But Cruzan is owned by the South Florida Fair and, by state law, is considered public property. Tracey says Live Nation Entertainment, which operates the venue (and also owns Ticketmaster), complained about his being there. Broward-Palm Beach New Times has the full story.

The medical cannabis program in Vermont has been a huge success. So much so, that the state is allowing a fourth medical marijuana dispensary to open next year as a way of expanding access to needy patients.
Applicants have until Sept. 3 to get their paperwork and $2,500 non-refundable application fee into the state Department of Public Safety.
