The state leads the country in the number of top ancillary businesses connected to the cannabis industry, but another industry with long-standing ties to the plant has also been enjoying the benefits: fast food.

Colorado’s decision to legalize recreational cannabis has taken the blame for several changes to the state’s rapidly changing landscape, specifically in Denver. Pot has been accused for the rise in population, the rise in homelessness and the rise in housing costs…and now one study believes it has found a solid connection to the increased cost of homes.

In May, as we’ve reported, Michael McCarron was arrested on a methamphetamine charge, even though he’s never knowingly possessed the substance, because a small amount of marijuana in his possession registered positive for meth according to two field-test kits known as NIKs. Now, an examination at a lab shows that the cannabis wasn’t laced with meth after all.
Catching up on a story from earlier this year: Former Boulder County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Tyler Mason is currently on probation after reportedly taking a plea deal following accusations that he’d attempted to smuggle marijuana edibles into Boulder County Jail.

And in explaining the factors that led to his decision, he makes an observation that speaks to the divergent trajectories of the two professions.
Owning a pot-smoking utensil can require a lot of upkeep — and anyone who uses them frequently knows how hard removing that black tar and wax reclaim can be. Many of us have friends who have forsaken pieces of glassware altogether, content with letting the grime cake up until they have to buy a new one.
Jake Westling had quite a few friends like that in Minnesota, he says. So many that he started cleaning their dirty pipes and bongs in his kitchen sink for a few dollars. Using a three-quarter gallon tank, he’d rinse any piece of glassware until it was cleaner than when it was purchased. Now, with a 65-gallon tank, he wants to clean yours.
Casara Andre is stuck between a rock and a hard place. In fact, so are all of her clients and some of her colleagues. The owner of Scheduled Relief veterinary clinic and a practicing veterinarian, Andre thinks cannabis products have medical benefits for pets, but she can’t legally recommend cannabis for her furry patients, and there’s little published research on the benefits of cannabis for animals to support her beliefs.
