Today is Legalization Day in Washington. Evergreen State voters made a loud and clear statement on November 6, dear readers, and here we are 30 days later leading the way in — finally! — taking cannabis to a new and different place.
This is the first time full legalization (or “legalization,” as some I-502 detractors still insist) has happened anywhere on Earth since America banned the fabulous cannabis plant in 1937. That’s a big deal — for Washington, for America, and for the world.
Even if you didn’t vote for 502 due to its many flaws, I encourage you to embrace this moment because something like this only comes around once in our lives. Americans, including my grandfather, have died for our right to tell the feds to stuff it over cannabis.

Adult Possession of Marijuana Becomes Legal In Washington State
Blaze a doob or spark a bowl at midnight, Washingtonians! Just don’t drive afterwards. Maybe for a couple days…?
Starting Thursday, December 6, people 21 and over will be able to legally possess up to one ounce of marijuana in the state of Washington. On Election Day last month, 55 percent of voters in both Washington State and Colorado voted to make marijuana legal, making those states the first two to approve legally regulating marijuana like alcohol.
The Washington State Liquor Control Board has until December 2013 to implement rules for the regulated market.

The Board of Supervisors in Humboldt County, California — famed worldwide for the quality of its cannabis — on Tuesday, for the second time, unanimously extended a moratorium in new medical marijuana dispensaries.
The one-year extension included an exemption designed to allow Hummingbird Healing Center, a Eureka dispensary closed in September, to reopen, reports Grant Scott-Goforth at the Eureka Times-Standard.
Humboldt County first enacted the medical marijuana dispensary moratorium in December 2011, after the Obama Administration started threatening local governments, including the cities of Eureka and Arcata, with legal action for having ordinances which allow dispensaries.

It’s for sure that authoring a Seattle Weekly “Voracious” food blog column, “Incredible Medibles,” has certainly nourished our keen interest in and enjoyment of cannabis-infused cooking.

Svante Myrick, the mayor of Ithaca, New York, announced on Tuesday that he thinks it’s time to legalize marijuana. The 25-year-old elected official’s announcement comes one month after voters in Colorado and Washington strongly approved measures legalizing marijuana.
“Despite having arrested over 20 million people for marijuana nationally — a number larger than the entire population of New York State — marijuana prohibition has failed to make our communities safer,” Mayor Myrick announced exclusively to the organization Marijuana Majority. “By legalizing and regulating marijuana in a manner similar to alcohol we can free up our already overburdened courts and law enforcement agencies to focus on serious and violent crime.

Only One-Third Would Approve of President Obama Interfering in Implementation of Colorado and Washington Ballot Measures
Marijuana will officially become legal for adults in Washington on Thursday when new law goes into effect
According to a national poll conducted by Public Policy Polling (PPP) from November 30 to December 2, a record high 58 percent of American voters said they think marijuana should be made legal, compared to only 39 percent who do not. In addition, 50 percent of respondents said they think marijuana will become legal under federal law within the next 10 years.

Mendocino County Board of Supervisors and County Counsel hold closed-door meeting Tuesday after 9 a.m. public comment period
The Mendocino Board of Supervisors and County Counsel Thomas Parker met in a closed-door session Tuesday to discuss a pending federal subpoena for records held by the Sheriff’s now-defunct medical marijuana cultivation program, County Code 9.31, in which registrants were allowed to grow collectively up to 99 plants and were sold zip ties for $25 per plant to show they were being cultivated in compliance with state law.

The Border Collie as we know it today is descended from a dog named Old Hemp. Old Hemp’s style was reportedly different from that commonly seen during his era, as he worked more quietly than other sheepdogs of the time.
This style was adopted and used by other breeders and trainers and became the dominant style among Border Collies within a few generations, according to Wikipedia.
While dogs much like the Border Collie existed centuries ago. As confirmed by old paintings and lithographs, sheherds’ dogs in the days of old looked quite similar to today’s Border Collie.

A former Microsoft executive in Washington state plans to enter the newly legal marijuana business there, with a decided tilt towards the upscale end of the cannabis market.
Jamen Shively said he plans to name the business after his great-grandfather, who supplied hemp tope to the Spanish Armada during the Spanish-American War, reports KIRO TV. He reportedly brainstormed the idea “after a few bong hits.”
