​The Oregon Medical Cannabis Awards, in which premier marijuana strains will compete for the highest honor, will be held this weekend in Portland. The day-long event encompasses much more than just the awards ceremony, with a unique green shopping bazaar and plenty of educational programs also on the agenda.
The day event is free and open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, December 18, at the World Famous Cannabis Cafe, 322 SE 82nd Avenue, Portland, OR 97216.
The Cannabis Cafe is a private club that serves Oregon Medical Marijuana Program registrants, and is not usually open to the public, reports Anna Diaz at Hemp News. The OMCA provides a special opportunity for the curious to get a peek inside, as well as the chance to shop for a wide variety of hemp and cannabis friendly products in one place.
“From hemp-based soaps and clothing to handmade jewelry and mosaic art, the Holiday Bazaar at the OMCA is one of Portland’s best kept secrets,” Diaz said.

​Highlighting this year’s day program is the return of the grow seminar led by Danny Danko. Danko is a writer, photographer and senior cultivation editor of High Times magazine. Seminar pre-registration is still open. Registration forms are available to download at www.ornorml.org or at the Cannabis Cafe. Advance registration fee for the grow seminar is $75 or $100 at the event.
A free legal panel, featuring Paul Loney, Oregon NORML legal director and member of the NORML Legal Committee, will also be held, and a cannabis salve and tincture demonstration by Angela Stanich will round out the day.
Judging results for the Oregon Medical Cannabis Awards are tabulated at the event, with prizes for best strains given at the awards banquet, which starts at 7 p.m.
“We are so excited to have a special musical performance at the banquet by Big Dub and J. Mack,” said Madeline Martinez, executive director of Oregon NORML. “They have written some new songs that include the Cannabis Cafe, which is really amazing!”
