Halloween is over, but you’ve still got a pumpkin laying around. Instead of letting it rot out and turn into a gross mush you’ll nearly puke over while cleaning up our friends at the Denver Westword have come up with a much better use.
One quick and easy way to get rid of those excess pumpkins: Turn them into your newest smoking piece. Anyone with five or ten minutes to spare can make a pipe or bong out of one of the fruits. Read on for our step-by-step guide to making an eco-friendly pipe out of a pumpkin.
First, gather your supplies. You’ll need a miniature pumpkin (about 50 cents at a grocery store), some weed and an electric drill with a variety of bits. If you don’t have a drill, you can still make your pipe using a pocketknife and a thick skewer or medium-sized Phillips-head screwdriver.
Using the thick bit on your drill or your pocketknife, carve a bowl into the top side of your pumpkin. Angle it downward at about 45 degrees, so the bud doesn’t fall out. Then, using a small drill bit or your screwdriver or skewer, drill a thin hole into the center of your bowl at about a 45-degree angle. It should reach approximately into the middle of your pumpkin.
Drill another hole into the side of your pumpkin, just deep enough that the two intersect.
To make the mouthpiece, drill one more hole into the pumpkin opposite the first one. Like the other two, angle it downward at 45 degrees so all three holes intersect in the middle of the gourd.
For extra points, jazz up your pumpkin with a face. Voila, your smoke-o-lantern is ready to use!
