Kevin Reed first started Green Cross Dispensary in 2004; soon the dispensary became too big for the neighborhood. Green Cross was shut down. After many negotiations and jumping through hoops with the city over possible locations, the best deal Reed could cut was to open a delivery service-only dispensary. That is where the situation stands today, except that he is looking aggressively for a new location.
“I miss not having the physical space of a dispensary,” Reed said. “I miss the interaction with patients. I like to hear what medicine or strain that people like or maybe want more of. Now the best I could I do is talk to my drivers. They tell me stories about the patients or their experiences. I really get jealous.”

Insured Home Deliveries Of Marijuana Start Next Week In Marin

Marin Alliance For Medical Marijuana

​The Marin Alliance For Medical Marijuana in Fairfax, California will start making cannabis deliveries to members of its collective next week, now that insurance concerns have been addressed, according to organizers.

“Finally!” said Lynette Shaw, founding director of the only licensed medical marijuana dispensary in Marin County.
Fairfax’s Planning Commission approved the marijuana delivery service in mid-June. Shaw said that since then, she has worked with the town attorney on the insurance coverage she’s required to have before starting operations, reports Richard Halstead at the Marin Independent Journal.
Shaw said the insurance policy, which is being provided by Sacramento-based Statewide Insurance (you seriously should do business with those folks), protects the town of Fairfax from any damages caused by the delivery service, as well as insuring the delivery people and their goods.

Michigan Cops Challenge State’s Medical Marijuana Law

​In Michigan, anti-pot local law enforcement is challenging in court the state’s 2008 law, passed by 63 percent of the voters, that allows distribution of medical marijuana.

A probable cause hearing began Wednesday for nine Oakland County, Mich., residents charged in a case that began when they were arrested August 25. All of the defendants are free on bond. The accused were associated with Clinical Relief, a Ferndale marijuana dispensary, reports Doug Guthrie of The Detroit News.
A warehouse in Macomb County and two dispensaries in Waterford Township were also raided, leading to other arrests.

Judge Tells Pot Growers They Must Harvest By November 30

​A Fresno County, California ordinance that bans outdoor medical marijuana gardens is valid, a judged ruled Wednesday, but backyard growers have until midnight on November 30 to harvest their crops.

County officials couldn’t immediately enforce the ordinance, Superior Court Judge Jeff Hamilton ruled, because they had failed to prove that outdoor gardens were an imminent threat to public safety, reports Pablo Lopez at The Fresno Bee.
Because of recent violence associated with marijuana gardens, the Board of Supervisors on September 14 approved the ordinance banning outdoor medical marijuana gardens in unincorporated areas.

Dragonfly De La Luz: The smugly self-satisfied new face of cannabis prohibition in California.

​It didn’t take long after the defeat of Proposition 19, which would have taxed and regulated marijuana in California, for the cannabis community to realize that legalization’s ignominious defeat was fueled by the duplicity — some would say outright treachery — of certain greedy, reactionary elements within the community itself. Boycotts against anti-Prop 19 businesses are now being organized.

So-called “Stoners Against Prop 19” — traitors to the movement such as Dennis Peron, Dragonfly De La Luz and J. Craig Canada — whether through stunning ignorance or outright malice, spread disinformation about exactly what the measure would have done.
They busily sowed division, distrust, and fear among a community that should have been united in striving to loosen the death grip of 70+ years of cannabis prohibition.
Offered the opportunity to embrace the future, these reactionary elements formed a fifth column within the medical cannabis community.
For who knows what reasons — maybe the miserly interest of preserving big pot profits? — they shamelessly allied themselves with the law enforcement and prison lobbies, with the Religious Right, and with the same intolerant fundamentalists behind the No On 19 campaign — the very same people, in the case of one statewide organization, that headed up the Proposition 8 anti-gay marriage initiative two years ago.

The Iowa Board of Pharmacy Tuesday morning reclassified marijuana as a Schedule Two drug with medical uses.

​The Iowa Board of Pharmacy on Tuesday morning reclassified marijuana as a drug with medicinal purposes. The Board agreed to change cannabis from a Schedule One to a Schedule Two drug.

The new classification by the Board means that marijuana is now considered to have accepted medical use in treatment, reports Angie Hunt at KCCI in Des Moines.
Previously, as a Schedule One drug, marijuana was regarded as having no proven or acceptable medical uses.

Seattle Mayor To Review Marijuana Policies After Botched Raid

​​Responding to increasing outrage over a police raid on a legal, two-plant medical cannabis garden, Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn on Monday announced an executive review of the city’s cannabis enforcement policies.

“It’s not the policy, or the goal, of the city to investigate, arrest and prosecute individuals who possess small amounts of marijuana,” said McGinn. The mayor organized a review panel consisting of the city attorney, police chief, county prosecutor, and a member of the city council.
Starting on Tuesday, November 2, a specific assistant police chief must approve all marijuana search warrants in the city.
Washington is one of 14 states that allow the medical use of cannabis, and Seattle voters directed police to lay off the pot enforcement with the passage of I-75, a “lowest priority” directive, in 2003.
​With a county prosecutor sympathetic to medical marijuana and a city attorney that refuses to pursue pot cases at all, Seattle is seen as a safe haven for medical marijuana patients in Washington.

If You Want To Keep Medical Marijuana In Cali, Say No To Cooley

If you support medical marijuana patients in California, Attorney General candidate Steve Cooley is not your friend.

​The race for attorney general of California — between Steve Cooley and Kamala Harris — is the most important election contest affecting the state’s medical marijuana patients, according to Americans for Safe Access.

A win for outspoken marijuana opponent Cooley — who has become infamous as Los Angeles County District Attorney for his extreme anti-cannabis stance — could devastate the gains California has made in bringing safe access to patients, many advocates believe.
Cooley is just not cool, according to NotCooley.com. He is on record opposing all sales of medical marijuana and has a long and unhappy history of complicating and obstructing the local regulatory process.
If elected, Cooley could criminalize the sale of medical marijuana and aggressively raid dispensaries around California. Cooley could reverse the 2008 California Attorney General Guidelines issued by Jerry Brown, and that could jeopardize the rights now enjoyed by patients and providers across the state.

​New Requirement Called Openly Hostile, “Blatantly Political”

New Jersey doctors who have begun enrolling some of their sickest patients in the state’s medical marijuana program Tuesday found they must agree to tell the patients there’s a “lack of scientific consensus” that cannabis works, that it could even hurt them, and that it has a risk of addiction.

Physicians must sign off on a statement attesting to their patients’ qualifying conditions and the failure of “conventional medicine” to help alleviate their suffering, reports Susan K. Livio at NJ.com.
But the statement goes much farther than that. It also forces doctors to provide “education for the patient on the lack of scientific consensus for the use of medical marijuana, its sedative properties, and the risk of addiction.”
