Which state in the U.S.A. smokes the most herb? Would you believe Alaska? Us either, but according to PolicyMic’s Alex Marin who put together a helpful infographic on the subject, the Last Frontier state consumes more ganja per capita than any of the other 50 states.
Rounding out the top three were Vermont and (no surprise here) Colorado.
Medical marijuana dispensaries will have to apply for the same licenses as legal recreational shops in Seattle, which several activists argue is a move to wipe out medical marijuana dispensaries altogether by forcing the state to adopt the same policy.
Basically, by forcing medical shops to be recreational shops the government is setting the up to be shut down if the feds ever come in and shut everything related to Washington’s I-502 down.

Attention clandestine Creek County, Oklahoma outdoor marijuana growers: stop growing your weed where wild game is being hunted.
Late yesterday evening Creek County Sheriff’s deputies got a call from a local narc hunter about a big, green find he had bagged: nearly $1 million in herb. This is the second time in three years police say they’ve found a grow like this in the area.
Over the past month or so, the organization opposed to the marijuana taxation measure Proposition AA has staged rallies in Denver and Boulder at which attendees were given free joints. But did the way No on Prop AA reported about its expenditures break Colorado campaign-finance law?
The watchdog group Colorado Ethics Watch thinks it did and has filed a complaint with the state on the topic. Denver Westword has the details.

Andrea Sanderlin, the New York mom accused earlier this summer of running a multimillion dollar marijuana ring, has pled guilty to operating a grow facility in Queens.
Sanderlin, who many in the media joked was the real-life version of the Showtime series “Weeds”, confessed to her “crimes” Tuesday, admitting to running the grow house for nearly four years.

Three men suspected of killing a marijuana grower in Tehama County, Calif. just south of Redding have been arrested on murder charges. Police are still seeking a fourth suspect.
Cops are still piecing the story together, but it seems that 37-year-old Keo Oudone Vannarath was living or staying in a camper at a legal medical garden early last Thursday morning when Roger Bounnhaseng, Alan Doulphus, Jr and Chase Doulphus drove up to rob the growers of their plants. Vannarath was shot trying to escape and the robbers fled.

The NIMBYs of the Fairfield, Conn. Town Plan and Zoning Commission all seem to agree that medical marijuana is a legitimate and beneficial therapy for patients with certain debilitating conditions.
They just don’t want it anywhere near their town.

Venerable pot magazine High Times has been focusing on Colorado quite a bit over the last few years, including naming Colorado strains as the most potent staffers have seen and bringing their annual Cannabis Cup events to the Mile High City.

The federal government no longer wants to try and seize an Anaheim office building owned by Tony Jalali, who was charged last year for renting out space to Remedy Tree Collective, a state-legal medical cannabis dispensary.
Though prosecutors aren’t commenting on the agreement, we’re guessing it stems from the fact that the feds have deemed such cases to be a waste of resources when related to state-legal marijuana shops.
A leading Jamaican justice official says Jamaica will consider changes to their cannabis laws, easing restrictions on a plant many worldwide already associate with the tiny, beautiful island nation.
Justice Minister Mark Golding tells the Jamaica Gleaner that changes to state marijuana laws in Colorado and Washington and the subsequent reaction by the federal government are signs of a shifting attitude towards cannabis. Golding also points out that much of the fight against ganja in his country over the last fifty years has been at the insistence of the United States.
