FindTheBest — an internet startup known for its consumer-oriented, data-driven comparisons — has applied the same accessible, ordered format which has worked so well for products like cars and smartphones to a comprehensive medical marijuana dispensaries listing.

“Not only does this comparison allow you to locate a dispensary by location, but it also contains tools that enable you to rank, filter, and sort results based on personal preferences,” FindTheBest student intern Richard Taylor told Toke of the Town Tuesday afternoon.
Looking specifically for cannabis clubs with clones? Do you prefer indica or sativa? “Simply refine your search by menu item to view the dispensaries that fulfill your needs,” Taylor told us.
Patients can further narrow results by specifying whether they prefer a physical store location or a delivery service — or if they want a medical marijuana dispensary that accepts credit cards.

LED grow lights have exploded in the last few years with more advanced versions seeming to appear monthly. But amongst marijuana growers there is heated debate on the subject, with traditionalists yet to be converted to the new technology

For patients who need medical marijuana, the progress of LED grow lights has been closely watched. The lights, which promise greater energy efficiency and lower heat than their high pressure sodium and metal halide cousins, have gained increasing visibility in the cannabis community.

LEDs (short for light emitting diodes) were first invented in 1927. More efficient than nearly any other type of artificial light, these diodes were too weak to be a contender for growing plants until recently.
But continuing research has resulted in LED lights that are more powerful than ever before. Within the last few years, many LED grow light systems have sprung up on the market for indoor gardeners.
Some claim the LED grow light technology may finally put the cultivation of a few marijuana plants within reach of anybody who has a few extra bucks and a spare closet.

Deep Green Fest II was held the day after 4/20 in the picturesque locale of the historic Craneway Pavilion, located just over the Richmond Bridge from San Francisco.
Joining up purposefully with Earth Day celebrations, Deep Green’s intent is to educate and enlighten on all things green – including Hemp, Cannabis, and holistic healing, with a healthy dose of politics thrown in for good measure.
Four stages featured music, lectures, and panels on everything from beekeeping to Cannabis, Hemp and legalization of both, Canna economics, responsible business models, and protecting children in the crossfire.
The star of the event was Stephen DeAngelo of Oakland’s Harborside Health Center, with his brother Andrew close by. Both were featured in the Discovery Channel’s Weed Wars, and promises of a second season of the hotly debated super miniseries were tweeted earlier in the week by Stephen, but quelled by event day with a promise of finding a new network.

Introduction: Changing the Way People Think About Cannabis, One Bud at a Time

Craig and I came of age in the 70s. He surfed and played guitar in rock bands, while I rode the waves on a Boogie Board and gardened.
Both of us reaped the benefits of cannabis: Craig for anxiety and undiagnosed autism; me for menstrual cramps and depression. I can’t speak for the boys, but we girls knew what worked each month, and pitied the girl relying solely on Midol and a heating pad.
Both of us watched as cannabis grew up to be good medicine, then was legalized in California in 1996. Neither of us rushed out to get a “Prop. 215 card.” I was busy raising my daughter; he was teaching high school and starting a family. Both of us stopped smoking for long periods of time. 
Surprisingly, it was age and health issues that brought the herb back into our lives. 
Heading into menopause, already suffering from digestive issues and weight gain caused by Thyroid Disease, I began using cannabis to relax my stomach where I hold my stress. 
Sleeplessness with menopause has become a huge issue for me, and a honey tincture provides at least six good hours of sleep a night, allowing me to write. 
While others may go the pharmaceutical route, we’ll stick to this simple herb. Our travels will have Craig looking for a pick-me-up for his chronic fatigue and relief for his chronic pain. I’ll be perusing the edible isles for sleep-aids and help with my flucuating mood swings.
Each trip will include a review of the top five collectives from the town we are visiting, while Craig reviews its top strains, deciphering aesthetics of the bud, and potential medicinal benefits.
We’ll also find a canna mover and shaker from that town and have a hang-out, chatting about what’s going on with the medicine in their world.
If your personal favorite club isn’t listed, not to worry, we’ll pass through town again! Send in your favorites and who knows, maybe your friendly neighborhood collective will make our list during our next trip.

Makers of the upcoming cannabis movie, Gone To Pot — a comedy about two hustlers who inherit a medical marijuana dispensary — have announced a free video contest in which entrants will explain why they like weed.

“The top 10 videos selected will appear in our film and the top three will share $10,000,” Gone To Pot writer/director Marty Keegan told Toke of the Town. “It’s free to enter as many times as you like.”
Celebrity judges of the video contest include legendary comedian Margaret Cho and Academy Award nominated director Peter Bogdanovich, according to Keegan.

This is scary. “Wrapped in ‘Tootsie Roll’ style wrappers, these powerful chewables consist of the most active ingredient in marijuana — THC — and their taffystyle packaging is conspicuously attractive to kids.”
That’s Heidi Heilman, guest columnist, writing in the Milford Daily News this week. Ms. Heilman is speaking of a January incident in which a car of teenagers was pulled over for speeding. The Cheeba Chews were found inside.
Powerful chewables with THC. From California and Colorado, no less, and under “the guise of medicine.” I think that the packaging is rather conservative. But who knows what those out-of- staters are cooking up for Massachusetts? This is probably the first wave of the assault, apparently by “deep pocket outsiders to target Massachusetts to become the next ‘medical’ marijuana haven.”

I get it about invading Massachusetts, maybe they should be left alone. Several invasions are already underway or coming up including Gamers, the Undead and Asian Longhorn Beetles.

With recipes inspired by Snoop Dogg, Cheech & Chong, and Willie Nelson, as well as beautiful (and, fair warning, hunger-inducing) color photos, The Official High Times Cannabis Cookbook is authored by Elise McDonough, who started working at the magazine a decade ago.
Toke of the Town had a chance to chat with Elise about the book and about her life experiences which led up to it.
“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed researching edibles and testing recipes for this book!” McDonough told us. “I wanted to include stories from counterculture heroes, and so we included recipes for activists like Jack Herer, Brownie Mary and the folks at Wo/Men’s Alliance for Medical Marijuana (wamm.org).
