Scotland’s Austin Low, known for his work as a writer on a children’s TV show, was mailed a box of “cookies” from somewhere on this side of the pond the other week. Only, the “cookies” weren’t cookies. They were several sealed bags of ganja. Though the report doesn’t say how much was found, they did say it was enough to be worth nearly $14,000 over there, according to the BBC.
The Amendment 64 Shadow Task Force is made up of activists monitoring the implementation of Colorado’s A64, which allows adults 21 and over to possess small amounts of marijuana. The shadow task force is now trying to beat the state to the punch via an ordinance that would make Nederland “the first town in America to regulate marijuana since its prohibition some 76 years ago.” Westword has the story.
Move over, Hot Tamales, there’s a new sheriff in town: pot tamales. In further proof that Mexican food has conquered America, the ABC Cooperative in Orange County, CA began offering them due to customer demand. They don’t make them on-site, but rather has someone else make batches, both medicated and not. So far, the only pot flavor is pineapple (you know, to take care of the sweet and the savory at the same time), but more will inevitably follow. OC Weekly has the full story.
Jacob Pressley and Jennifer Carpenter of Durham, North Carolina, were arrested Feb. 8 after Raleigh and Durham police raided their suburban home north of Interstate 40 and found “several” marijuana plants, according to the Herald-Sun. Police also found their child asleep in the house.
“If the Sergeants would please douse all the doobies in the area.”
Such was the edict put forth by John Morse, the Senate President in Colorado, after the strong smell of reefer wafted through the halls of the State Capitol. Maybe Colorado’s legislators know more about marijuana than they’re letting on. Westword has the video.

If you’re buying a pipe, you’re going to need something to put into it. Such is the logic of giving away free marijuana to customers who buy pipes in Colorado, but that’s not quite the way it works, according to the Colorado Attorney General and Denver Police Chief. Westword has the story.
A report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released this week says there is a link between smoking synthetic cannabis (Spice, K2) and acute kidney injury and even kidney failure. But as for how much of a link there is, scientists aren’t exactly sure.

CNN compiled a report on stoned driving this week focusing Washington state’s passage of Initiative 502 that set the THC blood limit for a driver at five nanograms per milliliter of blood.
While the report no doubt scared a few people into thinking high drivers are a menace, it also shows that impairment doesn’t necessarily happen at five nanograms and that stoned drivers may be safer than people think.
