Felony Hash: Are Texas Laws Unconstitutionally Vague?

In most states, simple possession of small amounts of hash is treated exactly the same as possession of marijuana — punishable as a misdemeanor. But not in Texas.

In Texas, possession of so-called “hash” is classified as a felony of varying degrees of severity depending on how much is possessed by aggregate weight. 
In the overwhelming majority of states, simple possession for small amounts of hash derived naturally from the marijuana plant is treated exactly the same as possession of marijuana — punishable as a misdemeanor. Even states known for their draconian drug laws treat hash the same way as they treat marijuana.

Lowest Priority Cannabis Enforcement: Signature Gathering Begins In WA

Recently the cannabis advocacy group Sensible Washington announced it was filing initiatives making marijuana the lowest law enforcement priority in six cities throughout Washington State. Now signature gathering drive has begun in three of those cities: Olympia, Everett and Bremerton.
“It is our goal to get these quickly on the ballot, as to effectively run a successful campaign to pass these initiatives into law,” said Anthony Martinelli of Sensible Washington.
If put on the ballot and passed, these initiatives, all titled the Marijuana Reform Act of 2012, will make cannabis the lowest law-enforcement priority, and also prohibit city and local law enforcement from cooperating with federal authorities over the implementation of federal cannabis policies.

I know, I know: She’s been one of the worst enemies imaginable to cannabis patients who want safe access, and has engaged in a vituperative campaign to shut down every collective and access point in the county.

Six National Drug Policy Organizations Call on President Obama to End Unnecessary Assault on Medical Marijuana Providers

In the wake of recent attacks on medical marijuana providers and patients by multiple branches of the federal government, including Monday’s raids on Oaksterdam University in Oakland, California, a coalition of six national drug policy reform organizations is appealing to President Obama and his administration to follow its own previously stated policies respecting state medical marijuana laws.
In the letter, posted in full below, the organizations call on the Obama Administration to bring an end to the federal government’s ongoing campaign to undermine state efforts to regulate safe and legal access to medical marijuana for those patients who rely on it.
 
The Obama Administration’s National Drug Control Strategy Report 2012, reportedly being released in the coming days, is expected to cling to failed and outdated marijuana policies which further cement the control of the marijuana trade in the hands of drug cartels and illegal operators, endangering both patients in medical marijuana states and citizens everywhere.

Former LAPD Deputy Chief Stephen Downing called the Ohio Medical Cannabis Act “a beautifully, effectively balanced and very reasonable amendment for medical cannabis”

​The Ohio Medical Cannabis Amendment is “a beautifully, effectively balanced and very reasonable amendment for medical cannabis,” according to Stephen Downing, former deputy chief of the Los Angeles Police Department, who endorsed OMCA at a press conference in Columbus, Ohio, on March 29.

A proposed citizen-initiatied amendment to the Ohio Constitution, the measure’s language is focused on extending to patients eight rights based on the Bill of Rights within the Ohio Constitution. The amendment also establishes an Ohio Commission of Cannabis Control to support, uphold and defend those rights, as well as to regulate medical marijuana in the state.
