BBC reporter Heather Alexander.

It’s always interesting to see the take on American medical and recreational cannabis from our friends across the pond. This recent report from the BBC on legalization in Colorado is proof of that, with the reporter singling out the ski resort town of Breckenridge as the potential American version of cannabis-friendly Amsterdam in the Netherlands. As a Coloradan, I highly doubt that will be the case — but the report does bring up a few interesting ideas.

Copenhagen.

Copenhagen officials are considering a measure that would create a three-year legalization study to help curb gang activity and create a “better life for average cannabis users.” Interestingly, the current proposal calls for cannabis to be imported from Colorado and Washington where voters recently passed bills legalizing small amounts of cannabis for personal use.

Artist rendition of weed cannon.

It’s almost something out of an old Wile E. Coyote cartoon. But unlike Acme cannons this one worked, and it was launching cannabis instead of a cartoon carnivore. The Mexicali Public Safety Department Tuesday say they confiscated a pneumatic gun used to shoot bales of herb and other drugs into the United States.
And they’ve been doing it for some time.

Those of you skiers and boarders who like lighting up on the chairlift might want to first check who is on the chair behind you. According to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Canada’s national public radio and television, Royal Canadian Mounted Police are patrolling the slopes of places like Whistler, Lake Louise and Nakiska looking specifically for people getting Rocky Mountain high on the hill.

Still from BBC’s Hedz.

Scotland’s Austin Low, known for his work as a writer on a children’s TV show, was mailed a box of “cookies” from somewhere on this side of the pond the other week. Only, the “cookies” weren’t cookies. They were several sealed bags of ganja. Though the report doesn’t say how much was found, they did say it was enough to be worth nearly $14,000 over there, according to the BBC.

Last October, Aldwin Rendardo Gooden stepped off a flight from Kingston, Jamaica in Gatwick Airport in the UK where he lives and was immediately detained for the two boxes containing about 44 pounds of marijuana he was packing in his luggage. Sadly, that’s not all that uncommon around the world (even I’ve been stopped coming back for Jamaica for simply smelling like ganja).

Bob Erb.

A Canadian marijuana activist and winner of a $25 million national lottery last November is putting his money where his mouth is.
The Province reported last week that Bob Erb, 60, has vowed to meet any donations to Sensible British Columbia campaign for marijuana decriminalization and legalization. Erb has already donated $120,000, and says he’ll donate up to $500,000 more to match donations.
